Holy cow Virus!

You played through it twice before I even finished playing one time to get on the score board!

I hope that means you liked it.

Contrary to my description, I had some bad luck getting Stealth on my first play-through -- my headphones decided to go all wonky for some reason during the last song (crackling and dropping out) and it caused me to just lose it all entirely.  >:(

Even though I did Stealth it beforehand (testing it out through various incarnations), it doesn't officially count. Maybe tomorrow because after all the testing I did tonight and the last play-through, I experienced some slight motion sickness or disorientation. It felt like being on a swaying boat in rough waters. That's never happened to me before, playing AudioSurf or any other game. I guess the warning is for realz.  :P

I love the [as-steep] tag!

Oftentimes when making a mix, a track by itself can be steep and fast, but when it's put in a mix which has other tunes that by themselves are slow and uphill, it creates an amalgam highway based on the beats-per-minute and it tends to favor uphill more often than not.

With the new tag I'm finding that it seems to restore the individual highway characteristics the songs had when they were by themselves within the mix itself and it makes for a nice, varied highway experiience in AudioSurf.

Please, do NOT take this tag away under any circumstances! :D

Description: Electronic genre mix questioning our origins and the consequence of genetic mutations.
Leading off with "El Mono Inquisitivo," which represents the questions all of us have followed by the long journey of the "Mindless Primate." Whether you take that to mean "unbothered" or "brainless" is for you to decide. "Itchy Monkey" crashes the party with his rapid entry into the Age of Invention and the Industrial Revolution with all the potential for harm that entails. Regardless of our origins, we have genetic mutation and congenital insanity as a species to contend with. Sometimes we elect these defects into public office. Whatever happens is going to happen -- so let's end it all with a big "Bonobo Bebop" dance party before we're blown off the face of the planet by nuclear missiles, bio-engineered disease or even God.

In AudioSurf, this mix is a lot of fun -- there are plenty of opportunities to use your fins to collect blocks (in Pro and Elite categories). I doubt you will have any trouble navigating flawlessly towards Stealth status until you hit "Bonobo Bebop." The only time you will have for a snack or taking a swig from the coffee mug without pausing is during "Mindless Primate."

One last thing: Please don't break the toilet!

P.S. -- This will probably be the last music I will be offering for quite some time. I need to use the time I've been spending creating it to do other things in which I am interested. Make no mistake, I loved creating it and will do it again but the next time will be different. My hardware needs to be upgraded and in its current state it limits the things I can do. There's another style that is beckoning to me and I'd like to leave it at that so as to not spoil the surprise when it finally arrives.

I do hope you enjoy this!

This happens on other songs.

I couldn't tell you if it happens or not on the radio songs as I've not tried the radio since the update.

That was pretty darn cool. No vid this time, as the fraps lag would have killed me. But I left a pretty nice score up there if anyone feels like trying to beat it.

Thanks!

However, did you really have to rub the fact that you use "pwntman" (lol) in us Mono users faces in the comments section?

Just kidding with you -- your score gives you the privilege of taunting us. :)
Nice job!

Troubleshooting / Scoreboard Recording May Have a Bug
« on: February 07, 2009, 11:52:35 am »
The following has happened to me twice.

I would beat a score on the board and when it displays instead of saying "2 seconds ago" it displayed when the person I beat made their score, yet I was six hours after they did it.

Here's an image:
http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/7341/pic03gu3.jpg

When it first happened I just thought it was a momentary glitch. It happened to me again later as well and it's keeping that time. The images in the link were captured just prior to making this post, 15 hours after I beat his score.

If this has already been reported, my apologies. I didn't see it mentioned anywhere.

As I said, I'm tired of playing obscure/bad techno songs just simply for the "red spiral of death" that I so enjoy.

I understand exactly what you're saying there.

My own experimenting with how to create music with a fast track has been very disappointing. Things which I would expect to make a fast track usually don't and those things which do are very abrasive sounding and not what I want to listen to.

Ideally, I want to make a track that is both enjoyable and worthy of competition (400+traffic) and listenable. Anything else and (to me) it's just noise without a purpose.

I do, however, like the [as-steep] tag although it's not perfect.

I can't download it right now (stupid school proxy server) but might the voice at the end have anything to do with Douglas Adams?

Nope.

It's not "someone" anywhere near his level. :D

Oh, and I want to make everyone aware that this tune is best played with the [as-steep] tag -- without it, the highway is very boring.

It's a basic human need - to ask:

- Who are we?

- Where do we come from?

- How did we get here?

- Why do we look the way we do?

Well...this tune won't answer any of those questions.
Those are questions you will hear at the beginning from the "voice" of Stephen Hawking -- except it's not his "voice" -- I had to recreate it myself because I couldn't find a recording that was clean enough to use.

The core of the music is a single vocalization of a chimpanzee which then had the music built around it in what I hope you will find to be an interesting structure and pleasing to hear.

Many of you already know I like things that pertain to primates and their behavior and usually try to work something related into the things I make. The music in this is intended for an overall theme regarding human origins and meant simply as a vehicle to carry you along as you listen. I will eventually put everything together in a coherent mix.

The style this time around is still electronic but more like a new age soundscape rather than a tune you can "whistle while you work."

There is one other voice at the end that I'm not going to identify. Most of you will recognize it immediately. I put it there as a counterpoint to any lofty ideas you may have about how "smart" we humans are.  :D

On AudioSurf this might not make an exciting ride unless you want to use the new [as-steep] tag. It's a lazy, uphill ride.

I do hope you enjoy it -- this is the download link:

Laser --

You realize that you're crazy, right?

But in a good way -- nice sense of humor and willingness to go "over the top" for a gag. :)

The world needs more people like you.

There's a part 2 since it wouldn't fit all in one

You're the BEST! :D

Really nice gameplay there -- thank you for taking the time to do that.
Oh...you can get some sleep now.

I said "probably" -- not that it was a fact. :D
If you only played Earthworm Jim 3D, then all bets are off.

IMO, Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 had everything (including the kitchen sink) needed to put it over-the-top as far as "fun to play" was concerned.

Nothing else like it, before or since. Nothing.

Many of you may already know about 2 of the finest platform games ever created -- Earthworm Jim 1 and 2.
Anyone who played either of those games probably agrees.

Now you can get that feeling of being Earthworm Jim once again but this time you're playing AudioSurf.

I've put together a mix of 8 tunes from the games which I believe represent the best of both (considering the fact that all of the music in the games was great, then I must be a liar).

This mix does not represent a real challenge to those of you who are mono-stealth freaks, but it is quite fun for Ninja Mono (Ironmode) or the puzzle characters.

At the very end you will hear something which only the best-of-the-best Earthworm Jim players got to hear. I suspect that our own kEn_sct would like Dylan to add something like it to AudioSurf. Only he, and perhaps a few others would get to hear it due to their "mad skillz."

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this mix -- I might make more if people like it.

You can get both Earthworm Jim 1 and Earthworm Jim 2 at gog.com for about $5 bucks -- no DRM -- you can install the games on as many of your computers as you wish. Plus, you also get the entire soundtrack for each game.

Mono Pro [Ironmode] and sometimes Ninja Mono [depending on the tune].

Hey -- I'm old, so give me a break. :D
