Songs / Comedy on AudioSurf
« on: November 06, 2011, 09:49:55 pm »
Cleaning up some detritus on my hard drive, I ran across an old radio show comedy bit from Bob & Tom.

I didn't want to trash it (because it's hilarious) and wanted to see how it would play in AudioSurf with just a few bits of musical atmosphere added onto it (it has a beat, now).

The results are pretty good and it makes a nice, varied track. Not too easy and not too difficult.

Here's the track graph:

It's 2 minutes and 49 seconds of something that I guarantee will make you laugh. If not, your money will be cheerfully refunded.  :D

It's "Uncle Arnie Plays Russian Roullette" -- the download link is below:

https://rapidshare.com/files/239334664/Uncle_Arnie_Plays_Russian_Roullette.mp3

Let's see who can laugh their way to the top of the scoreboard on this one!

"What "Name" do you want?" was me.

Somehow I became logged out and didn't realize it when creating the post. The question asking for "Name" above the intended "Subject" befuddled me after entering "UncFester" and it responded that it was a reserved name.

Brain farts, I guess.

Parents everywhere who read about this are probably climbing to their rooftops to see if the Plains of Nazca have appeared. :)

Phallus is what the shape is called. It applies to all objects of that shape, it's not another word for penis.

Um...there is a distinction depending upon usage.

A "phallic symbol" is, as you stated, all objects of that shape.
However, strictly speaking, the term "phallus" means exactly what it is supposed to mean -- a penis.

Discussion / Re: Impossible to get high score on mono :(
« on: March 13, 2009, 12:22:35 pm »
If seperate scoreboards is what you want, that's not hard to understand at all, I was merely commenting on why mono characters doesn't "deserve" to get as much points as puzzle characters. Imo, we should have the ability to sort score by character, but I guess that's been suggested a bahzillion times.

Mono certainly does NOT deserve a higher score potential as puzzle characters -- you're absolutely correct and I agree with that completely!

And it is because of that fact that I believe it should be separated from the puzzlers.
I'm a "casual" player but that doesn't mean I don't want to be competitive, far from it. One day I will show up on the boards using a puzzle character, but in the meantime it shouldn't be hard at all for Dylan to code the game to filter by character type.

It would certainly go far to curtail the potential next "bahzillion" remarks about it and make the game more "welcoming" to noobs at the same time when they see that Mono is being given a fair shake.

My apologies if I've come off as overly-strident concerning this topic, but it's always been a sore point for me and sometimes I speak my mind a little too loudly. :)

free of riaa anyways they cant enforce anything outside of the u.s.

Nah, they just use their "quislings" like the CRIA (Canada), the IFPI in 72 other countries, etc., etc.

This music has nothing to do with any of them at all and I only pointed it out so as to forestall a moderator possibly editing/deleting the torrent links.

These are torrents with hundreds of seeds, so the download shouldn't take too long.
As stated, this is LEGAL music, free of the clutches of the RIAA.

This is the TorrentFreak article about the South by Southwest Music Festival (SXSW):

This is the main SXSW site if you need to know more:

Needless to say, you need a BitTorrent client in order to download the torrents.

What kind of traffic are you talking about?

There are plenty of songs in which the Mono competition is fierce -- if you don't play them, well that's your problem, not mine.

If you're just playing some low-traffic songs then yes, the point of diminishing returns will come quite soon and effective competition is then over (without cheating). Then you move to another song. Simple, isn't it?

Song length and traffic is key to whether a song can be competitive in Mono's class. Most people say that the traffic needs to be around 400 or better, but there are songs with lower traffic which can be just as competitive.

This is where all the arguments about Mono lead -- right here -- and it pisses people off (like me for instance) when the case for Mono competition being separated is just casually dismissed as if it doesn't matter at all.

If you can't see the point, then I suggest you not get involved in the argument since you apparently don't have any stake in it. I don't care if the puzzle characters beat each other to death repeatedly due to their ever-increasing "mad skillz" -- I play Mono and it suits me fine. I don't want to play the same song over, and over and over (as is the case with Through The Fire and Flames for puzzle characters for what seems like infinity at this point). That's great and I admire their ability to improve over time. It's ONE TYPE of competition that people enjoy, yet there are a lot of us who don't "get off" on it.

How hard is that to understand?

Separating the scoreboards would effectively end this debate once and for all.

"Mono competition is almost nonsense... or non-existent."

This statement just proved my point.
So...you get a medal for talking shit.

I'm referring to the overall discussions which have incessantly infested the forums about Mono versus the rest. Yes, Pusher is more difficult -- no argument from me there -- that's why I said the game is as easy or as difficult as you want it to be.

My beef is with people (on both sides) arguing that they're somehow "better" because they play a particular character.

If you like one character over another -- fine -- that's why it's a great game, there's plenty of choice and variation in gameplay modes.

But you can't tell me that there hasn't been a continuous flow of what I call "elitism" spewed from both Mono players and the puzzle-character players alike over who has the better skills. It's one of the main reasons (in my opinion) justifying the need for scoreboard separation.

As has been stated in this thread, it's irritating to hold the high score in Mono mode only to have it taken away by a puzzle character. Not all of us feel compelled to use a puzzle character for various reasons, so why the resistance to a scoreboard separation?

Simply answering that Mono players should learn the puzzle characters in order to compete is not an answer.

The answer has remained the same.

More like, the "opinions" have remained the same.

My opinion? They are simply different game modes which aren't really comparable at all.
The game is as easy or difficult as you want it to be -- nothing more, nothing less.

Anything above that is merely elitism needlessly coloring a useless, contrived argument that does nothing other than serving to divide players into some sort of class-based cliques.

It's sort of like saying Pac Man has a very low ceiling of skill sets in comparison to Ms. Pac Man and that players of the latter are intellectually superior to players of the former.

That is really awesome!

For the first time, it actually felt (for me) like an actual "racing" game.

I did terrible at it, but it was really fun. A spiral came up so fast that I was already through it (and hitting grey blocks the entire time) before I could even react or know which way to go.

It has two things against it though.

1) - At 16 minutes, it's a bit too long.
2) - When the music finally arrives, it ruins the experience.

That's just my opinion, though.

I will be giving this another try sometime when my reflexes (and caffeine load) are at a higher level. :)

Thanks for posting this -- I do hope others give it a try!

i dont know:what that song is ?????????????????????????????????????????????????

One of the Old Rules of the Internet is, "The more superfluous question marks used, the faster you will receive an answer to your question."

Because...it's obviously an important question.

We can see the proof of it in this very thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[More exclamation marks = being "moar righter."]

im also investigating why these tracks which should be downhill, are so uphill.  F in particular has me confused.  any one of those songs on their own was downhill...so why is it uphill completely when mixed?  maybe dylan will see this and be able to comment =] (maybe)

I've noticed this as well in my own mixes -- songs which are downhill individually lose their identity in a mix and turn out being uphill. A lot of it depends on the BPM before and after a tune in a mix (I've experimented with this extensively), e.g., a tune at the beginning with 135 BPM followed by a 120 BPM tune will lose most of its former downhill characteristics. Starting a mix with slower songs and with each successive tune having a higher BPM can help a lot, but it's still far from what the tunes were as individuals.

But -- the new [as-steep] tag seems to restore things to the way they should be when it's used on a mix. Using that tag turns a boring highway experience in a mix back into what it should be as well as (seemingly) matching the musical changes a lot better.
