Songs / Songs you thought not only you would play
« on: May 05, 2008, 06:11:31 pm »
Sometimes I feel like the only one who reads the OverClocked Remix forums and steals songs, but I started this thread for songs you're REALLY surprised no one else is playing.

Me? Oneida. This band is made of pure talent. And they eat awesome for breakfast, often with a side of greatness!
...Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's really weird that no one else is playing them. They're a very talented experimental rock band with some very unique sounds.

http://www.myspace.com/oneidarocks (I don't so much care for the three songs at the top, but below that you can listen to 30 secs of any song they've done.)

So what songs/bands can you guys not believe you're alone with?

Edit FYI: I have the Happy New Year CD, which Up With the People (linked above) is on. I've heard some of Secret Wars, which I wasn't quite as impressed with, but I have been with most of what else I've heard.

Feature Requests / Weather
« on: February 27, 2008, 08:57:42 pm »
I think it would be really cool if there were weather attributes to certain songs. Rain, snow, sunny (birds included), and...well I don't think it would be OK to put the player into a snow storm where you can't see five feet ahead of you (like my school president does), but you guys get the drift.

I'm thinking only for the enhanced graphics, though. Or maybe something that you can chose like the sound effects. Of course, then it would have different detail settings based on the graphics level.

Feature Requests / Surf movies
« on: February 26, 2008, 06:13:29 pm »
"Man, this movie is so fricken boring. But ya' know what would make it more entertaining? Color matching!"

Think about it. No more boring melodrama. We can have fun color matching drama.

"Wow, this movie's awesome! The idiosyncrasies of the characters really come out through the main character's ability to see the beauty in other people and my ability to match 7...wait, match 11!"

See the difference?

Feature Requests / Don't pause when I go to another screen.
« on: February 26, 2008, 10:00:13 am »
Yeah, this function is useful when I'm playing a song, but I spend the majority of my time in menus, and much of my time in loading screen. There's no reason for it to pause while loading.

This is especially annoying when I'm booting the game up. It takes quite a while to load, and it'll only do it while it's the active window!

Feature Requests / Ability to turn menu music OFF
« on: February 24, 2008, 11:51:50 pm »
This really annoys me. I listen to a song, then decide I want to go to Youtube or something. But there's this menu music playing. There's no game volume control, and there's no option to turn off the music so I have to either wait it out or guess what song I'll feel like playing in the future and load it.

Songs / Composers of Audio Surf (free music for the game)
« on: February 19, 2008, 09:48:36 pm »
It seems that Audio Surf attracts people who make music. Don't really know why, but I've been enjoying playing my own songs on it and I'm sure others have done the same.

So this is a place for the ones who make the music to pool their songs into one thread, and the people who listen to music to get free songs to play in the game. This is also a way of ensuring that artists get listened to; no threads with no responses forcing the artist to bump it to get anyone's attention.

This also really shouldn't be a feedback ordeal. If you like the song, it's good to say so, but dissecting it, telling the artist what parts could be improved, and having him or her re-upload is not really the point. That would be better done in an IM or another forum that has a feedback section.

In short, short comment good, long comment bad.

Please don't post a song that starts you off with five bricks in your face. Either the song should not start with any immediate bricks, or insert a one second pause before the song begins.

Please don't sell your song. This is just part of general fairness. Many will post songs, it is up for the audience to decide whether it's good or bad. Writing "LEET MIXING RAAAAWWWWK" won't improve our opinions.

On the other hand, I am for general info such as genre, what kind of track it creates, length, etc. Legal info is also very good. Preferably in italic text AFTER the link and description if one is given.

Me first, I guess.

This is a remix I did of Final Fantasy 1's battle theme by Uemastu Nobuo (family name, then personal (I think)). It is a work in progress, but it's well on it's way (I hope). I'd say there's good difficulty if played on elite.

I really don't care about any sort of copyright. I wouldn't even be pissed if you slapped your name on it and went somewhere else with it.

I hope a lot of you artists post a lot of songs. Sort of like a community project.

And I hope you consumers enjoy watching it happen, and commenting on the way.

Note: Rules are subject to change. What they are now is just a baseline of what would be nice. Later, by demand, some might be added, some might vanish.

Discussion / Mono with limitations.
« on: January 20, 2008, 03:06:00 pm »
I wonder why no one thinks of ideas for characters other than the Mono. Oh well, I never did care to be a trend setter.

My idea is to have a mono with a hammer. This hammer can be on the right or left of it. Right clicking puts it on the right side, left on the left.

What's this hammer do?
Well, this mono can't actually collect blocks, but hammer does. But the problem is that it's so big. If it's on the left, you can't pick up things in the right-most lane because the mono gets in the way. So you have to switch sides. But switching sides requires you're in the middle lane, and any blocks in ANY of the lanes gets swiped up when the hammer makes its arc.

At first, the idea was that instead of a mono with a hammer, it was the grim reaper with a sad scythe...but I thought that wouldn't match the artistic style. Then I though Santa on a unicorn would do better, but if anyone would have asked why it wasn't a reindeer, I wouldn't have been able to break the news to them.

Troubleshooting / Incompadible with certain mp3 types?
« on: January 19, 2008, 01:08:01 pm »
This game has encouraged me to expand a little interest into j-rock. I tried playing a few mp3s of the stuff but only some of them work. I think I remember hearing somewhere that the different types of mp3 compression...I don't quite remember, but this game goes awesome with j-rock, so I think this would be a good feature to invest in.

The error I get is "Playback error 2".
