Things that make me want to leave the planet, #473: Every single Audiosurf video on YouTube exposes the uploader's crappy ID3 tags. Why, WHY THE HELL are people happy with "Unknown Artist: dj_generic_crapstep_-_shit_song"?? They probably complain about the score boards not working, too, and then blame Dylan for their own lazyness.

To answer your question ... you don't need to purchase songs, and there is no song inventory or anything like that. Instead, the game will gladly accept ANY audio file you choose. Just pick a song from your hard drive, it will work.
So let's go back to your question now. "can you trade songs with other players?" If you want to ride a song someone else has but you don't, what do you do? You need his MP3 file (or whatever audio format you prefer). How do you get his MP3 file? C'mon, everyone knows how to get MP3 files.

Us tag nazis usually get our 'official' tags from MusicBrainz. That's a good start. Another thing I'd like to see ASA do is calling the Last.FM API and using the redirections from their site on the scoreboard so that popular, lazy tags like 'Motorhead' are automatically redirected to 'Motörhead'. lrn2charmap.exe, you lazy Americans ... 
Classical music gets difficult though, as there are way too many ways to tag a song and it will never be 'wrong'. The only time I consider a tag wrong is when the composer is in the artist tag instead of the performer(s). (There is a composer tag, use it! Or add him to the song title if you have to.) Beethoven never released a CD, so give credit to the symphony orchestra please. You wouldn't tag a Coldplay song with 'Chris Martin' either.
(Also, while we're at it: do yourself a favor and don't rip YouTube videos. Their audio quality is an insult to my ears. Go with SciLor's Grooveshark Downloader instead.)
