Feature Requests / Re: Most requested features

I would love Dylan to show his to-do list. That would actually stop many posters from requesting the same things over and over again.

Discussion / Re: The "Story" Behind AudioSurf
« on: February 24, 2008, 04:39:52 pm »
Nice story, lacks a love plot, though :)
I was thinking some time ago how this game could have been f**ked up, and adding a storyline topped the list. It seems every game becomes lamer when it has a storyline (see Need for Speed, Toca Race Driver series, etc), with the noble exceptions of Portal and the Half-Life series.
But seriously, add a love interest to your story and it might as well make the console version :)

Songs / Re: Highest Traffic Thread

Played around a bit more and a plain 50Hz sound has a traffic of over 737 (again, Audiosurf gave me a different number each time, but it was consistently over 700). And it doesn't make your brain explode like the high pitched ones :)

Edit: Here's a 5 min file of the 50Hz sound, which apparently has an even higher traffic (highest I've seen on this was 818, average ~760). Enjoy, it's good for training. Not much in the melody department, though, I think I should work some more on the harmonies ;) Until then, I guess you won't be putting it on your iPod :)

I've checked 2KHz sine, which gives a traffic of 619, 3KHz with 659, though the game seems to be losing it, showing different traffic every time and some random numbers for higher values. Seems that the audio analysis engine is banging against the wall on these ones. You can try them themsleves, I used Audacity to create the tones. But keep your speakers down and your headphones off if you don't wanna see blood coming out of your ears :)

BTW, 2KHz had a corkscrew at the beginning, reallt bugs me how they're created, if there's no fluctuation in sound ::)

HIghest I've played so far was ~410 on Boomerang (Koala Mix) by Buzz Fuzz. Absolutely horrible hardcore techno song (?), barely sit through it, but plays really well :)
BTW, does anybody know if there's some cap of maximum traffic congestion?have we reached the limit with the test tone from riktw?

Well, he loved Portal, the only positive review I've seen him do. Maybe it's time for a second one ;)

Happened to me as well, in fullscreen. Don't know if it's the same, but somehow an incoming msg in my IM window stole the focus from the game without alt-tabbing out of it. I alt-tabbed to Windows and back into the game and it was OK.

Nope, tried a 35 min chapter (River out of Eden by R. Dawkins - expected much traffic :)), but didn't work. As you said, probably limited to 25. An official statement from Devwhatshisname would be nice, though.

Combat would totally spoil the game, if you ask me. Can be optional, though, wouldn't mind a bit of mindless violence once in a while :)

Good Job, BTW

I've played Timeless by Goldie, which is 21:03. Trying to find anything longer in my collection, seems the only mp3s longer than 25 min I have are audiobooks :)

I think everyone might already know this but isn't it like one of the first games to use Steamworks? so there could be some problems with that, thoughts?
Valve's games (TF2, Portal and HL2ep2) already use Steamworks and it work more or less fine, so I guess there shouldn't be many issues there.
C'mon people, it's not a delay, Feb 15th is not even half through where Valve is. Besides, what's the sense in checking steam every 5 minutes? Anyone expect them to set their publishing system to, say 1.34pm just to have a laugh? I check on full hours, or 5 past in case my clock is set wrong.

How does it feel to be making deals with the devils? :D
Well, I would feel absolutely awesome. Imagine creating something that let's you go there and talk to the big first-league guys in music labels and to persuade them, that YOUR product has enough potential for them to be interested in.

BTW, Dylan, ever heard of Magnatune? Heard they've got some deal with Amarok, the KDE music player, and they've got loads of free streaming music. You might wanna look into that once you've done talking to the big shots :)
