Troubleshooting / Re: Quicktime Error
« on: May 23, 2013, 10:50:21 am »
Apple changed how Quicktime is detected and Audiosurf can't detect more recent versions of it as a result.

AFAIK the only answer is to convert the music to a format that isn't bogged down with stupid patents. Like OGG or FLAC.

You don't need new. Audiosurf will run on pretty much anything from the last 5 years.
It will struggle on Intel chipsets older than 3 years though.

The issue is DirectX on your machine and you could try to reinstall that and it might work. Download here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

So I looked up your chipset... It's from 2005. I'm surprised it's ever run on this computer frankly. You don't need a new computer to run Audiosurf, however you do need something newer than 8 years old.

Ouch. Seriously though, ever tried swatting a fly with a news app?

I find junk mail works fine for it. ;)

I want at least one of you (h3x or Mincus) to upload the entire Air's article on that mag or I'll be furious :p

I don't have a decent camera or a scanner so I can't.
I also have no intent on supporting dying and irrelevant industries like paper media.

Urgh. A magazine? Do I have to. I didn't think they were relevant any more.

Addons / Re: Super Playlist Surf!
« on: May 12, 2013, 01:40:48 am »
just found this wanna run it but for some reason it says "Audiosurf not Found" in the bottom left corner. if it helps imma running the "non-steam version" only cause steam auto-crashes meh computer (for whatever reason). any help plox?

The pirated version doesn't have the updates required to be used by 3rd party programs. I suggest buying the game.

I guess 4 years of free radio updates just wasn't enough.
I guess the free scoreboard system with a fair reporting system just isn't enough.
I guess the move to a completely different and much more stable engine with new playstyles just isn't reason enough to purchase the game again.
I guess Dylan should stop looking after his family and cater to the whims of the Audiosurf forum every day.
I guess we should all judge games we've not yet played and only seen 90 seconds of gameplay footage of.

Sign up to Steam, add it to your wishlist and you should get an e-mail when it's on sale if it's too expensive at full price.

I seem to remember there's a login issue as well with AS in wine. Think you might actually have to play and login through a Windows first.

Yeah, there were some versions of wine that took additional characters in the text boxes Audiosurf uses so the username/password were always incorrect.

Backup your current Windows install of Audiosurf (in Steam\steamapps\common) and when you've installed it in wine, copy the backup over the top of that download and you should have a valid login saved.

You need to install the Windows version of Steam through wine and use that install to play Audiosurf.

It's awkward, but then gaming with wine usually is, unfortunately.

There are also a myriad of issues with Audiosurf under wine. It's playable, but sometimes the screen bugs out or fonts don't work quite right and performance isn't the best. Generally using fullscreen mode works a little better (last I tried anyway).
It's not really suitable for taking thrones on scoreboards, but it's fine for casual play.

Chat / Re: Anyone want a Dota 2 invite?
« on: March 30, 2013, 01:49:30 pm »
Use http://steamcommunity.com/id/dota2bot

If you want a Dota 2 invite, just add the bot to your friends list and send them a message as "give dota" and they'll gift you it.

If you want rid of Dota 2 invites then add the bot to your friends list and ask it to trade.

I've given it a few invites in the past and it works fine. The bot removes itself from your friends list as soon as the transaction is completed.

Interesting. But I just played on casual and there is no change http://www.audio-surf.com/song.php#13141400
Also, there are some tracks with no casual scores where the track shape is present in the online scoreboard.

Unfortunate, but it does confirm it's a bug in the site code because I can retrieve the track shape without having to fudge it now. The data is in there, just not being accessed correctly for some reason.

Tracked it down.

There's a bug in the 'get ride data' on the server when there isn't a score in the Casual league. This means the requested league and ride id don't match and the result is that the server returns a single '0' for the track shape instead of the real track shape.

The actual data is in there, but you have to fudge it to get it out, for instance the retrieved track shape for davenz737's Pro run of Endless Twilight (Original Emotional Mix) by Dreamy is:

It should fix itself if you run the song on Casual. Uninteresting as that may be. ;)

The issue is server side. For some reason these tracks aren't returning a valid ID when looking up the track shape data.
I've written some applications that look up score lists and track shapes and I'm getting 'unknown song' for the IDs (9512000 and 13141400). I'll investigate further and see what I can find out.
