Discussion / Re: Pusher/Pointman Tutorial
« on: June 15, 2013, 04:51:37 pm »
With pointman elite you should start learning to collect as many reds and yellows (at least 90% or 95%). You'd be surprised how many points you can get as a beginner when you collect as many reds and yellows as possible. You have to learn to accumulate 15-18 reds or yellows in one match while chaining. If you try to match too many colors in one match you don't get that many points..  Making too many purples or blues in several matches will not get you many points. You need to save your reds and yellows from the start of the song by placing them in left and right columns so that your matches become larger later in the song. You should match 2 colors and it is preferable not to match more than 2 colors consistently. It is possible to collect 98%-100% reds and yellows, collect 40%-50% of greens, 5% blues, and 3% purples and get a good score. You certainly have a better chance of getting a respectable score with the aforementioned stats than if the colors are evenly distributed.

Thanks a lot, guys! I'm now thinking about going ironmode... Not that I got so good suddenly :D, but I noticed, that when I mess up my quee, I spend half of the song on the shoulders waiting for opportunities to get rid of the unwanted blocks. This costs me ten thousands of points and is generally hindering my improvement. The only problem is that ironmode is faster and I tend to overfill too frequently(2/3 of the time at least once, I'd say) for it. Or maybe I should stick to normal mode and do not care so much about overfilling for now...

Overfilling can happen especially when dealing with white blocks. White blocks can get you stuck quickly. If you overfill you can restart the song. When you restart the song the white blocks that contributed to the overfill are not going to be in the same locations. Even the expert pointman players overfill due to the randomness of white blocks.

Nova Terran's recommendation of traffic of 150-200 is very good to learn and get used to pointman. Songs with 200 traffic may give you more problems in the beginning, but you can do well with 200 traffic given enough practice.

Troubleshooting / Re: Quicktime Error

You can try to verify your Audiosurf files on Steam by right clicking: Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache. I'm not sure it would help, but you should try it.

If the music has DRM it won't play in Audiosurf at all.

There is no DRM for iTunes songs anymore. Apple finally removed DRM from all their song files after an agreement with music labels.

There hasn't been as much activity on the forums as there used to be. Of course, people should be able to remember you as a special pointman elite player. This Android game looks like a nice effort with some cool puzzle characteristics. I'm relatively new to Android so I don't have any games for my Android devices. I haven't felt comfortable yet with games for mobile devices. I checked the Google Play Store and it looks like the kind of game that can grow on you as you progress from one level to the next. Good luck with this game. :)

@blue_h3x You should take note of a spelling error: Ausiosurf should be correctly spelled Audiosurf at the beginning of the title of this thread.

If anyone sees the preview in the magazine in question, perhaps they should take a picture with a camera phone and share it with us in this thread.

Discussion / Re: Raise friend cap please?

It is a great idea to raise the friend cap by at least a dozen. It is unlikely, however, that the friend cap will be raised for Audiosurf. Dylan had indicated in a post that he is not taking game changes much farther. He is probably too focused on AS Air at this point in time.

I noticed that there is what looks like a storm at 0:42 of the Audiosurf Air trailer. It looks like an oval shaped object, the same shape as the gray spheres but matches the color of the blocks. That's interesting because there are no storms when playing Mono characters.

Feature Requests / Re: Character fix ideas
« on: March 27, 2013, 02:39:34 pm »
Uupis' last post is very valid. There will always be an imbalance with puzzle characters. There are way too many parameters to consider when trying to balance puzzle characters, one of them being the characteristics of the song. Characters tend to have an advantage on songs with certain characteristics. For example, pusher, eraser, and double vision have an advantage over pointman on songs with very heavy traffic (250 or greater). Vegas tends to have an advantage on song of short duration given the right combination of powerups. It's too difficult to reconcile the differences between characters' scoring potential and all the different types of songs. Nerfing characters is out of the question after the 2009 beta since nerfing would make the scoreboards irrelevant. Too many scores would be unreachable if any characters are nerfed. Audiosurf was never designed to have perfect character balance. Take a look at the TTFAF elite global scoreboard (http://www.audio-surf.com/song.php?t=popular#465). There is obvious character imbalance as there is no pointman elite in the top 10. I think it's fair to say that there will never be a pointman elite in the top 10 global scoreboard for TTFAF.

Discussion / Re: No track shape
« on: March 23, 2013, 03:00:58 pm »
The problem does not show while you are playing the song. You will also find that the old scoreboard (the non-online scoreboard) does not display the track shape. However, I advise you not to check the track shape on the old scoreboard for fear that you may accidentally report your score, thus resulting in the accidental deletion of your score.

I believe the issue of not having the track shape displayed is attributed to the quirks of the Quest3D engine, the graphics engine that runs Audiosurf. Most bugs on Audiosurf are attributed to the Quest3D engine. There are many scoreboards other than the ones you have pointed out that do not display the track shape.

I know, I know! Don't need to do that! Geez.  :-\
It's an habit of mine to hover it first >_>

I had a habit of hovering my cursor over my score. Then I developed a new habit by moving the cursor to the left of the screen to make sure it wouldn't get close to hovering my score. I quickly click on the online stats. So it is possible to break the habit of hovering the cursor over your score.

It looks quite different than Audiosurf. It looks like we are going to have to learn a completely new scoring system. The character going up in the air seems to result in bonus points.

ShouldMan again, but DVE is above all even Cheaters

Yeah, congrats to you for dethroning the cheater. There is a history of some players dethroning ShouldMan, but he fights back to get the throne by cheating again.
