Songs / Re: Video: I Never Want To - Pusher Elite

Great run.  People who are good at Pusher are some mythical beast to me.  I can't imagine my brain working fast enough to process any meaningful strategy there.

Discussion / Re: 'Improved score potential of Mono characters'
« on: February 28, 2008, 09:09:57 am »
This argument will be solved when Mono/Puzzle characters get their own scoreboards like they should have from the start.  The two modes just aren't compatible.

I personally thought it was a little unfair that I could blow past a near perfection Stealth/Clean Mono with a really crappy Eraser run on almost every single song.

Dylan said he's working on "finding a sweet spot" but I still think trying to find a balance between the scoring systems of both seems like a misuse of valuable development time.  It's obvious that they're two totally different ways to play.

Holy crap.  I wonder if this thread's creator remembers what it looks like outside. :)

I'm gonna be playing this game for years.  It's one of the most infinitely replayable games ever made, and I have a feeling it's just gonna keep getting better since the developer seems so invested in it.

I feel like I ripped you off only paying $10 for this masterpiece.

Discussion / Re: Pointman Tips
« on: February 27, 2008, 03:07:20 pm »
Here's some general tips for Pointman.  I'm still not even that great at it, but these help me:

1.  Use the shoulder.  Easy tip to keep from overfilling.  Don't get overwhelmed, especially in fast parts of songs.

2.  Be picky about what colors you pick up.  Concentrate on warm colors, red/yellow, unless it's a slow song.  Whatever is most prevalent is going to get you the most points, even if you're picking up blues and purples.  If that's what there's the most of, grabbing them instead of waiting for a few reds down the line is a waste of point potential.

3.  Concentrate on power ups.  Multipliers and paint blocks are the best things you can grab in Pointman.  Try to snatch them up in your grasp to use during opportune times instead of just running into them.  If you can get a multiplier and a red or yellow paint block in storage at the same time, prepare for some monster points.  Just fill your columns up with 21 random color bricks and let the power ups go for up to 32,000 points (x4 plus red paint) and a Match 21 bonus at the end of your run.

4.  When playing Pointman I tend to not concentrate on white blocks as much as I do with Eraser, since they are so much easier to drop to the bottom in Eraser mode and can really screw you up in Pointman, if you trap blocks under them it can get really hard to score.  If there's an easy one coming up on an empty column, sure I'll grab it, but I don't go out of my way for them like I do on Eraser.

I post higher scores on Eraser than I do on any other ship, but those tips usually get me through really fast songs in Pointman.  Just remember that power ups are the most important thing in Pointman no matter what!

Feature Requests / Re: Replay feature?

Need this feature bad.  This game's all about gloating for me.  I need to be able to save my awesome runs to rub them in my friend's faces.

Feature Requests / Re: In-Game dethroned notices

Weird.  I wonder why I haven't seen any yet.  I've been dethroned a bunch of times so far.

At any rate, I still think an in-game message system would work better than emailing them. :)

Feature Requests / Re: Scoreboard - Filter by Character
« on: February 26, 2008, 10:45:23 am »
It would be nice to see each character have their own scoreboards, but leave the global one in.  If I play something that requires more skill than mono and get a higher score, I believe I should still be on top of an overall scoreboard.
I agree with the overall sentiment, but to say that mono doesn't require as much skill is kind of unfair.  The primary reason I don't play it is because it's too hard and twitchy.  I prefer thinking my way through a track instead of reacting my way through it.  I still have a lot of respect for mono players, even with I embarrass their perfect runs with my average eraser runs. :D

I haven't been getting dethrone emails.  Do those really happen?  I thought the person that told me that was just being a retard.

I'd love to see an in-game notice though that told me when someone knocked me down so I could go back for blood. :)

Troubleshooting / Re: Patch testers needed
« on: February 24, 2008, 04:29:08 pm »
Signing in to test patches.  Since the game is pretty buggy now, I kind of feel like I'm already beta testing it so I might as well help out the developer. :)

Feature Requests / Re: Most requested features
« on: February 24, 2008, 11:50:15 am »
A couple things:

I think there should be more stats at the end of songs.  How many of each color block there were and how many you got, number/size of combos, how many white/black blocks you got/missed.  I dunno about most gamers, but when I play music/rhythm games like this I crave stats.

Also, it would be kind of nice to know how exactly someone who ran a song and only got Match 7 beats me when I have M11, clean finish, seeing red & butter ninja...

In general, I think the UI needs a lot of work.  More media player style functionality would be a good start.  Song search and browser needs to be a lot better.  I'm sure I'm not the first person to suggest this.

Lastly, I'd love to have a giant log of all the scores I've ever posted too, similar to the My Songs list, only spanning the entire history of you playing.  It wouldn't have to be much more than just a big text log file that the game writes and draws info from.

Feature Requests / Re: Percent Complete

Great idea.  I don't play mono anymore, but they need something to stay relevant in the scoring.  Plus that's just good info to have.
