Here's a (non-exhaustive) list of the major bugs that people keep reporting that haven't yet been fixed. If they're in this list, then yes - the admins and developers know about them and are working towards solving them. Feel free to post here and I can update the post with more.

I want to start by saying that I'm not an admin, developer or even particularly clever - I'm just trying to help make the admins jobs easier Smiley

Another thread in the Critical Bugs forum might also ahve the answer you're looking for - I'm slowly porting these across.

QUESTIONS

UNOFFICIAL ANSWERS
  • The forum is slow to load / doesn't load / gives me a database connection error:
Yes! The admins know about this and are working to fix it. Hopefully it's better now, but there's lots of people playing the game and because the forum, site and scoreboards all sit on the same server, there's loads of people slowing the site down. It's being worked on, and will hopefully be sorted soon.

  • The scoreboard doesn't work / I can't submit scores / I can't view the scoreboard / I can't login in-game:
As for the above answer, the server is under a lot of strain from everybody starting to play the game, submit scores and submit bugs to the forum. It's being worked on.

  • The mouse cursor disappears in-game:
Probably the most reported bug, this is when you're in-game and the mouse disappears when you hit ESC to go to the in-game menu. Most often happens when you shift-tab to go to the game overlay (steam friends etc) or alt-tab out of the game.
Workaround: You can get the cursor back by moving the invisible mouse off the side of the screen (assuming you're in fullscreen mode - or just outside the window in windowed mode) and clicking. When the game kicks you out, click back onto it to open it again, and your cursor should automagically appear again.

  • My songs won't load / Songs are flat tracks / The song won't load
Firstly, a common misconception is that Audiosurf can play all different songs. That's not entirely true. The game can play a lot of different song formats (mp3, wma etc), but it can not play protected music - usually music downloaded from either the iTunes store or the Windows Media Guide / Store thing. These songs have protection built in that only lets approved players (e.g. iTunes, WMP) play these tracks. While there are plugins for other mp3 players (e.g. Winamp), these are mostly illegal and it's unlikely the developers will support it.
Workarounds: A partial workaround is to do one of the following:
    • Burn some music to a CD, and then pop the CD in and let Audiosurf use the CD to play music from. CDs can't be protected in the same way songs are, so they should play fine.
    • 'Burn' some music to an ISO file (Nero can do this, as can a number of other players (if you have a better idea, post here and I'll update this). Then you can 'mount' that ISO file and it acts exactly like another physical CD drive, and Audiosurf will see it as another music cd.
    • Break the protection using some external program so that they're just normal mp3 files. This is illegal and will not be talked about here, unless the admins want to risk that.
Of the workarounds, I'd suggest doing the second (making and mounting the ISO) if you're technically minded enough, as it doesn't cost anything and should work fine. If I get time, I'll do a quick overview of what is needed to do this.

  • I know my songs aren't protected, but they still won't play / I get an error: 'Playback error 44'[/url]
There doesn't seem to be a simple solution to this, but a couple of people have solved it by installing codec packs to decode the mp3/wma/whatever data. I'd suggest starting with the CCCP audio/video codec pack, and posting here if that doesn't work for you. It's often quite a bit different from PC to PC, and it depends on chains of filters that are often quite different because of other software you've installed. One solution for the admins (if they're reading this) is to just say the hell with it and package the LAME decoder with the game, so that mp3 tracks can always be decoded no matter what the system has.
Possible solution: Download and install the CCCP audio/video codec pack, then close Steam completely and restart the game (You may be required to restart your computer after installing the CCCP anyway, depending on settings).

  • Some guy is on the top of the high scores list for every song / My high scores list doesn't update
This is possibly because the scoreboard isn't updating (due to the servers being overloaded) and showing the last data it was able to download from the server (that is, from a previous song). As with answers 1 and 2, once the server is upgraded and fixed, this shouldn't happen (source)

  • Audio browser doesn't look right / Song is flat-lining and audio browser is broken
This has been discussed quite a bit by a number of people in this thread and a workaround is discussed in this post - thanks freibooter!
Workaround: Start Audiosurf, select a character without a tutorial video. The Audiobrowser should work perfectly. Select a song, it should then analyze without a problem. Select back twice, select a character with a tutorial video. The audiobrowser should still work perfectly. Finally, the song should analyze without a problem and the game should then work (source).

  • I've been playing the demo and now the game doesn't work through Steam when I buy it
There's a few possible causes and solutions, but it looks like there might be a conflict between some files. Uninstalling fully and reinstalling seems to have fixed it for a couple of people.
Workaround: First, verify the game cache. In Steam, right click Audiosurf, click the Local Files tab, then click the 'Verify integrity of game cache' button. Let if verify and fix files if needed and try again - if that doesn't help then a couple of people have successfully deleted the local game files and re-downloaded it. I can't guarantee that this works (I haven't tried it), or that it won't screw something else up, but it seems the best way to guarantee you have the right files.

  • Main menu music doesn't loop
It's known, but it's not a big priority. Go play the game already ;-)

If the highscores show the same people with the same scores every time, this is also due to the servers being overloaded.

Hey, about the mouse dissapearing after using Shift-Tab and the such, I find if I just minimize and bring the game back up it comes back 100% of the time.  I just alt-tab out of the game and alt-tab back.  Quick, easy, no problems.

  • Main menu music doesn't loop
Please keep it that way or at least preserve the option. It allows running AS on the background between surfing sessions without needing to exit and restart.
