Logging in to the Forum

Not really an AudioSurf issue, but I'm suddenly unable to log in here using either Chrome or IE -- after putting in my password, an error comes up with the suggestion that I check my Cookies (and we've all done that doncha know).

Firefox works fine (what I'm using right now).

What is it that would specifically disallow my log-in using Chrome or IE while allowing Firefox?

Seen as there's been no change in the forum software, and I can log in with FF9, IE9, O11 I'd suggest it was your configuration of said problematic browsers.

I've had no problems in the past with Chrome or IE8 accessing the forum and my settings have not been changed. I even went through each of them and put everything at default.

Is there perhaps some Windows setting which could prevent them from working here?

If I can't resolve it any other way, I guess there's always the "solution" of uninstalling and then reinstalling.

Problem with Chrome solved!

It was blocking pop-ups (which I never turned on at all!

How does a setting like that get changed without any user interaction?

The "hamsters" sounds more plausible.

Anyway -- IE8 is now solved as well. Another setting that I never messed with at all. I had to overide "automatic" handling of cookies by IE8.

Funny thing -- I've visited this site on numerous occassions without a problem until today.

But --

This morning I went to Windows Update and had about 11 "critical" updates installed.

Isn't out-of-date XP stuck with IE8 though?

XP "can't" run IE9 because it used dx10 for webpage rendering on GPU, XP is locked out of dx10 and so IE9.

Either way, XP should be ditched for a more recent OS ASAP anyway.

While I happen to like Windows 7, my machine is old and needs to stick with XP Pro for the time being.

Whenever I have the where-with-all (money), then I will upgrade.

Right now though, XP works superbly for all of the programs that I use and there's no genuine advantage (other than "It's New!") to be obtained with an OS upgrade.

Besides, I want to be one of those people who are going to hold Microsoft to their word regarding supporting it until 2014.
