Video Game Music (Classic and Modern)
« on: January 04, 2012, 08:59:58 am »
Who else loves video game music? ;D

Most of the songs I've ridden are VG tunes. NES, Super NES, Genesis, Sega CD, PC, arcade, ZX Spectrum, you name it. Half-Life, Microcosm, Silpheed, Gradius III, Darius Twin, Splatterhouse 2, Sub-Terrania, Doom, Contra, Cobra Triangle, Maximum Carnage, and Lethal Enforcers to name a few. All of these soundtracks are absolutely perfect for audiosurfing.

So what are some of your favorite game soundtracks and VG music composers? Some of my faves are Kelly Bailey, Tommy Tallarico, Jesper Kyd, and the Konami KuKeiHa CLUB.

I've just recently put together all of the soundtracks from the Humble Bundle games, and been surfing those.  Bit.Trip.Runner is pretty good, but Bastion has to be my favorite game soundtrack.

I have ridden songs by Lisa Miskovsky from the Mirror's Edge soundtrack. I also have songs from the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Soundtrack which is quite diverse in terms of the artists. The artists are mainstream and very well known. All songs from the Mirror's Edge and GTA IV: San Andreas soundtracks are great for audiosurfing.

Have any of you ever played any of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games?

Not specifically but now that you mention it....
Anyway, I've surfed a few tracks from the STALKER OST. The more up-tempo ones. Also Firelake's song Fighting Unknown.

I have Japanese game soundtracks from some PC, and some PS2.
I'd hazard a guess that you're probably a fan of Konami soundtracks. Amiright? ;D

Had fun with several Konami games growing up, though haven't played the theme music from them...
I have an Atlus game soundtrack for the PSP game Yggdra Union.
Along with a full collection of theme music for Aqua/Aria (Manga/Anime/PS2 game.)
Other Japanese PC games have been acquired for games like Nekonade Distortion. (See http://vndb.org/v4909)
Another few tracks I've played come from some Korean/Japanese games. (Like Requiem, and Ragnarok Online produced by Gravity.)

Yggdra
I'd bet my right hand that name comes from Yggdrasil (Oden's steed), the Norse name for the "life tree" which part of the inspirado behind the story of Faxanadu (NES). A lot of the monsters in that game were inspired by Japanese mythology.

Yeah, was an odd little combat strat game. (Somewhat like Final Fantasy Tactics & Wild Arms X-Fire on PSP.) with heavy influence from Norse Mythology. Mo of the tracks are under a min, but there's 2 or 3 that are a couple of min long.

Anything by Graeme Norgate works awesome in Audiosurf.

I nearly came close to beating Uglen's throne in one of them!
