What's With The Achievements?

I and others in the Audiosurf community have noticed that some achievements have been earned so many times that the numbers appear to be too inflated to be true. Some players have achieved the big kahunas over 100K times. I understand that the big kahuna can be increased more quickly depending on the character the player uses the most. It seems like the players who play Eraser or Double Vision characters tend to have achieved the big kahuna more often than players who play other characters. I have seen one player get the brutus achievement over 1000 times. I'm not sure it's possible to achieve brutus that many times. Is it possible that a bug is causing the big kahunas and other achievements to be so inflated?

I have 'achieved' big kahuna over 1000 times, and laser show over 1000 times. From what I used to play, I'd say these were perfectly possible to achieve.

How so? Beating a friend on the scoreboard 1000 times isn't that much of a feat. Unless you are a major sceptic of their playing. Bizarro I'd question more.

You have missed something else though, Sunburn isn't on the profile list of achievements.

There is something up. I just did a little test; I played Flight of the Feathered Serpent 6 times with DVE and got:

(This is per ride, not running total!)
Try #   BK   Olympian
1        51      1
2        139    2
3        139    3
4        174    4
5        216    5
6        259    6
Total  932    21

All of this in 1 hour. The song is about 10 minutes, which means I was getting a match of 17,000 or more every 2.3 seconds on the last run   
Now I don't feel as awesome about my 135K Big Kahunas between all me accounts

I noticed the strangely high Olympian value...and I just played 4 songs on pusher elite and it increased by 10...

You have missed something else though, Sunburn isn't on the profile list of achievements.

The Sunburn achievement isn't on the profile list of achievements but it's  on the Steam profile of achievements for Audiosurf. However, we have no idea how many times we have earned the Sunburn achievements. If you have earned every achievement you will notice that you have 18 of 17 achievements.

Yes, that is 6 Olympians and 259 Big Kahunas in a single ride! The running total for the hour is that 932 Big Kahunas and 21 Olympians...which is still a Big Kahuna every 3.8 seconds for an hour.

Looks like it keeps track of the total per game, and then thinks all that was achieved per ride? Anyone care to try this again, except having the 6th run be a mono run where nothing is hit at all?

So I did another test and the results are what S. Eagle said. It keeps track of all the achievements you earned since AS started, then acts like you got that many during that run.

(These are again PER RIDE and NOT a running total) (All played with DVE unless specified and I repeat the same song unless specified)
All songs were about 3 minutes.

It would seem that the game code just increments the counter each time you gain said achievement and doesn't initialise the variable with each new song.

I'd say we can now but this down as a confirmed bug.
