i don't have the same issue but it really help with eye strain to have some ambient light in the room and to have a good amount of light behind the monitors.

it's kinda hard on your eyes to be looking at a ultra bright rectangle in the middle of your FOV when everything around it is dark in comparison.

my office/studio space has some tracklights on the same wall i have my main computer against so i just have some of them point right at the wall behind my display, find it helps.

Try playing slow and non-bumpy songs. (Or songs soo fast there's no bumps either)

Basically any song without bumps.

Basically any song without a strong beat will do.

You could try some acoustic guitar for slow uphill non-bouncy songs, though the vocals might make the track go insane.
Some heavy electric guitar jamming with high BPM might make for a speedy all-red track where there simply is no room anymore for bumps, especially if the drums are all over the place as well.

Try from the Orange Box Soundtrack (if that comes with the demo) the song "03 - Dark Interval" from EP2. That's a fast song with no bumps. (it's basically choir aaah's or whatever to call it)
I'm sure the others know some better non-bumpy songs. This Valve one is all I know by heart atm. I've seen plenty though.

yes that definitely minimized the headache when there were no bumps. It's still there but ever so slight now.

It's likely that the headaches come from moving graphics/fast moving colours, I'd still recommend going to see a doctor.

Though what type of seizure would this be referring to? or is it just plain motion sickness?

I certainly have no idea, I just know it's not normal. You may be perfectly fine, just one of those rare few who can't play games, it might be something serious. However this conversation cannot peruse further without proper medical attention as it will only lead to hypercondriac notions.
