I'd suggest not playing for the rest of the day until your headache goes away, also play in a well lit room helps.

Maybe you should ask a doctor rather than random people on a forum?

well its just a small thing for me and doctor costs money etc etc.

yeah im only going to probably just play it once a day until the demo runs out

edit: i had my screens brightness at 77% (factory default) but now im going to just turn it to 0 for this game to help with that.. And yes, I have a fairly well lit room (a lightbulb on the ceiling.. would that be "well-lit" tho? :s)

Fix'd. ;)

If you're using an old CRT monitor (the big old bulky ones), that could be the cause, they often caused headaches in people, especially at lower refresh rates (I can't use one at 60Hz myself, which used to drive me nuts at college).
Playing in a window would help. I can't remember if Audiosurf pays attention to the refresh rate in the fullscreen dialogue or not.

If you're using a newer flat panel screen then you really should seek medical advice. Try the Beat Hazard demo as well and see if it happens during that. You shouldn't be getting headaches from short periods playing games though.

Play for up to an hour and then take a break. Don't play in a dark room, try putting a light on behind you to add some ambient light. Make sure you drink water regularly. Don't play when tired.

If you're getting headaches then visiting a real doctor is advisable.

You should not play Audiosurf while suffering from a headache. Play in a well-lit room. If you are tired you should take a break from the game because your performance will not improve until you are fully rested.

Well, it's possible to remove most of the sources.  For instance, you could play mono mode with all colors set to the same thing except gray.  You could replace the various fireworks textures and such with blank texture files, of which I'm sure someone here would be happy to supply you with.  You could play with graphics set to minimal.

Not even a little, in your subconscious?

Well anyway what the others said made sense. Does this occur with other games too?

The big notification message at startup of the game ain't there for nothing either, so take a read through that as well? Although most of it has been summarized already I think.

I could easily make a graphics package which pretty much removed everything that's possible if it helps.

iirc, the Minimal settings already take care of that. No need for a texture package.
