why wont you play again? i want more good competiton w/ other pusher / pointman ppl.
I got gradually less interested after the rebalance, it just doesn't feel worth it anymore. At this point it would take far too much for me to get back into the swing of things, but I have a run or two now and then. Pro was always more random than elite, but the patch just made it 10 times worse... at least previously the mode that gave the most control (decreasing the randomness) scored the highest. It used to be that Vegas was totally random, but even on its best day fell just below a decent pointman run... that made sense. But really we have nobody to blame but ourselves, we all missed it during the beta, I gave the OK to Vegas, hell I was even one of the first people to argue for buffing it. Ah the folly of youth.

Pro just isn't (and can't be) balanced because of paints and multipliers, playing elite offers more balanced competition.
afaict, the ratio paint/multiplier is equal for pusher/pointman. It shouldn't matter.
Vegas is a different story though.

The pro mode isn't as balanced as elite because the frequency of paints and multipliers can vary from one playthrough to the next. The colors of paints and the size of the mulitpliers are other factors that vary from one playthrough to the next. The aforementioned variations and randomizations do not apply to the elite mode.
But whether a pusher or a pointman has that run shouldn't matter. Unless I'm not seeing something here.
the problem is eraser pro/vegas can set up giant red matches with multiplers while pusher pro/pointman pro cannot (as easily). Also pointman only having 21 slots and no clear bonus(at least i don't think it has a clear bonus on pro) adds insult to injury when eraser pro/vegas can get 190k/170k matches respectively.

I play eraser pro (because, TBH, I hate vegas. I also really suck at it which is why people should calm down when they say it's overpowered, even though it is) and eraser and pusher elite. I'd like to think I'm better at pusher than pointman in both elite and pro but the pro timer is way too quick for me to set up anything big with pusher and I'm not as coordinated with pointman. So, to answer your question, I occasionally play pusher pro.
Audiosurf is like a mix of tetris, need for speed and pot... Look at all the colours, dude!

I have played some Pusher pro. I like Pusher elite better than Pusher pro because the match timer on elite is longer. Therefore, I can make larger, more effective matches on elite. As for the rebalance being anyone's fault, I believe that the beta should have lasted much longer than 1.5 months. A much longer beta would have given Dylan a better of idea of how to rebalance characters, although I still don't think there will ever be perfect character balance in this game.

Even massive developers like Blizzard never quite get a game balanced right in one try... hence why Diablo 2 had 13+ patches that primarily focused on balance. It will be the same for Diablo 3, I'm sure.

That the AS update beta failed to balance should not have come as a surprise to anyone.

While I do believe that a more optimal balance is readily attainable, there is no longer any incentive for Dylan to put all the extra work in. To appease his fanclub? Ehhhh, no matter how good another update might turn out, there'd still be some people who whined and moaned about it!

This game has never really been about fair and universal competition. There are dozens of versions of any given track, scoreboards are readily hacked, and the characters by their nature will always be imbalanced on any given song. What this game has always been about is duking it out on songs you like against people you know from the community. Thus, if you want a good battle on a sweet track, get your mates to rename it with [as-lol] and agree to only use whichever characters.

As for me, I just play for the aesthetic and to see if I can best my own records, now!

Although much has been said about character balance, dschallert is right that there are other problems that have always existed. There are different versions of songs which decrease the practicality of competition. There is also hacking which has been going on since the beginning of Audiosurf. No matter what Dylan does with character balance, it will not satisfy everyone. There will be people who will not like the results of a rebalance. Sometimes I have thought that perhaps having separate scoreboards for each character might be a good idea because there are too many parameters to consider when trying to balance the characters. Parameters would include traffic and the direction of the track. The aforementioned parameters and other parameters make character balance too complex.
