My PC loathes Audiosurf
« on: September 12, 2011, 04:04:08 pm »

Quest3D is the best engine ever. I love it!

EDIT: Oh, btw, I have an outdated and pirated version of Audiosurf burned on a CD. Just installed that and not only it has better performance, it doesn't crash at launch.

Does it only crash on launch?

What program is it you used to make that image too?

I'd like to point out this issue was fixed using the core affinity batch script written by Mincus, available here - http://www.audio-surf.com/forum/index.php/topic,7041.msg73479.html#msg73479

I'm using this to track AS' crashes:

http://www.soluto.com/

It's useful for catching crashes, making your PC boot faster and lightening up your web browsers :)

That is the first program I have ever installed that actually checked to see if I had a current .net framework installed.

That's fair interesting, ViRUS. The only time I have a crash is when I alt+tab and the music decides it doesn't wanna play. Then the game realises the music isn't playing. Then the game says NOMUSICLOLDERPCANTCOMPUTE and crashes.
Audiosurf is like a mix of tetris, need for speed and pot... Look at all the colours, dude!

Really? Audiosurf crashes quite a lot for me. Usually when I'm trying to quit it though.

If I minimise the game from fullscreen it sometimes refuses to minimise and looses track of where the buttons are, Ctrl-Alt-Del sorts it out though.

AS never crashes on quit to me.

Maybe that's because I've been using ctrl+alt+del to quit AS for over a year now (because it crashed on quit lol)

So it does crash ;)

It used to crash for me as well, though now it only takes it like 3 minutes to unload things from RAM and then it closes normally.

What bothers me though is its general jerkyness; no matter what resolution/graphic detail I use, every few seconds it stops for a fraction of a second and then has to catch up with the music, which looks horrible and makes me catch blocks I don't want to, plus it really ruins the immersion for me.

Also, the lack of a proper 'VSync off' option makes me have to use RadeonPRO to disable it, which is far from perfect and if I unfullscreen the game to check something (maybe to change an option on YAAP or whatever), once I go back to fullscreen it 'loses link' with AS' rendering and VSync gets enabled again, forcing me to restart the game or deal with a horribly annoying mouse lag.

So basically that's why I've stopped playing lately. Mono it's just not relaxing anymore when I have to deal with all those performance problems :-\

It's bizarre how variable the engine is. Right now it's behaving ok for me around 95% of the time, except for the crash-on-quit, which has always happened since I bought the game.
That last 5% though? Wow does it get frustrating when it just won't work and behaves as ViRUS described. :-\

Almost every time I change from fullscreen to window the graphics get distorted and the buttons 'hot spots' are wrong. Though moving back to fullscreen, when I locate the hot spot, sorts all this out.

The range of issues is perplexing enough on it's own.

Let's blame Quest3D. Does anyone know any other (free) Quest3D games we could all install and document the potential crashy-ness?
