If you have ffdshow installed, and have it enabled for all applications, open up ffdshow options:
Start => Programs => ffdshow => Video Decoder Options.
(or Start => Programs => Combined Community Codec Pack => FFDShow Video Decoder Configuration).

Choose "DirectShow control" on the left, tick the checkbox next to "Don't use ffdshow in:" and append "QuestViewer.exe" into the box. Hit OK.

Repeat for Audio.

This fixes the bug, where tutorials either crash AudioSurf or show up in a separate window.

Doesn't change much for me, I actually went the exact opposite way and I now have slightly less problems.
On the first run ffdshow asked me if it should be used in QuestViewer.exe and I answered no, never (the equivalent to adding it manually).
I later, out of desperation, changed that to always use in QuestViewer.exe and my successful launches of the game increased just a little bit. QuestViewer.exe works fine with and without ffdshow for me, but I never really had any problems with the videos anyways, only just about every other bugs out there. Smiley

I'm using beta4a of the ffdshow tryouts by the way (which can be considered the latest "stable" despite its name): http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/ maybe you might just want to upgrade?

I was using newest ffdshow.

If I let the ffdshow decoder decode the video, the video opened in a separate window and broke things terribly.

Also, if the game was running fullscreen then the game chain minimized and had be killed/restarted.

So it might be some other ffdshow setting.

I was about to post about ffdshow and AS. Was actually in the middle of making some video examples of what ffdshow does to AS and especially with FRAPS/AS. I decided to search on the topic though before posting.   Wink

What was happening to me was it would screw up the audio/video sync something fierce right from the get go then it would speed up the video rate (only the video) to something like double speed after hitting a few large clusters of blocks.

Since I turned off ffdshow my overall FPS increased a decent amount in game and FRAPS runs/records AS great. Grin

If for some reason you need or just want to see the video difference, lemme know I can put them up.

Hmm, scratch that seems to only loose sync on m4a files.  I just tested a few Frap recordings with m4a and a few with mp3.  All the mp3's are perfectly synced but the m4a's loose sync right off and the video accelerates drastically still on large clusters of blocks.  I'll open a new post and upload some samples.  Unless someone has an idea why this might be, tho I don't want to clutter this post with an off topic issue.

Though the fps boost from not having ffdshow enabled is still nice so is AS not crashing.

EDIT: Alright after goofing around more with AS options I found an odd "bug"?  Dunno if I should even call it that tbh.  But I had "Decode mp3's with iTunes" checked for some reason.  I unchecked it and now m4a's record in sync  Oo .  Odd.  Just happy it's working fine atm.
