When I try to load a song from an other PC (shared drive) on my LAN (I have a Gentoo Linux PC with Samba 3.0.28) it gives an "Playback Error: 2".
To be sure it is a bug relating to loading network files, I tried to load a song from my laptop (shared directory, WinXP) and it produced the same error.

So, loading songs from a shared drive/directory is not working. Probably something going b0rked on UNC.

That is quite annoying because I moved all my music to the linux box, so all music is stored on one place. Now I have to copy it back to my PC :(

Try first give the shared netword folder a drive letter, that should work

I mapped the shared directory to a network drive and that worked indeed. So thanks for the tip ANOON!
Still, this is just a workaround, as trying an UNC-path still doesn't work (like: \\computername\directory\file.mp3).
With the workaround available, the bug will be:

Bug: UNC-path doesn't work, like \\computername\directory\file.mp3, when loading a mp3.
Error message: Playback error: 2
Reproduce: share a folder on a different PC. Use the popup file browser in Audiosurf. Hit "My network Places" and select the directory and a mp3.
Workaround: map the directory to a network drive.

After finding related bug 2 (see above), it is almost certain this bug is about how the audio browser creates its path.
As clicking in an empty directory add "\" to the path, the audio browser thinks that a machine like "\\MyServer" is a local directory with two (possible) parent dirs, instead of a machine on a network (with normal UNC).

I hope you guys didn't reinvented the wheel by making a complete new FileIO-API for audiosurf....

I'll ask Dylan about this one--I'm not sure what's going on. This thread might help if you haven't already seen it:

Thanks for the link. I've read the steam-forum-thread, and basically found bug, situation and work-around are identical.
Thread has been added in the "Duplicate or related threads"-list.

Only thing different from my work is that I'm not able to solve this bug... I need a break!
