Judging by the uneven distribution of spam throughout the subforums, I would say no.  As for deleting accounts, it is locked to not removing any posts.  It is however possible to delete an account that is currently online.

Passerby just showed me this: http://www.audio-surf.com/forum/index.php?action=mlist;sort=posts;start=0;desc

Bot has more posts than most of the long-time regulars.

Guess there's not much we can do. Dylan seems non responsive?

At first the bot was spamming at 80 spams an hour, it's now averaging 95 spams an hour. With over 1700 spams now it's going to be a hard clean up job. Or this marks the begining of the death of the forum.

I certainly hope it's not the beginning of the death of the forum. This forum has been very helpful. However, these days have been marred by the invasion of the spammers.  :(

Should we post some announcement it to the newcomers and tell what is going on?

As I said in discussion, I am working on fixing the issue with blue_h3x.  I should have an announcement to make in a couple hours.

I have gotten in contact with Dylan and he has(is going to?) upgraded the forums, and is also working with blue_h3x on installing reCaptcha.  We will win the bot war!

recaptcha wont be 100% effective, but should drop it down to a amount more manageable to the few mods the fourms has.

With reCaptcha installed, the majority of bots should be locked out now. Although some bots send the requests to humans for verification, and these bots will still get in unfortunately. However there's a way to block these as well, and I've sent the details to Dylan.

Beer and cookies at my place to celebrate!

Yay.
Apparently, Chat and Addons switched positions, but that's something I'll get used to.

I should note that there is still roughly the same amount of spam happening; this appears to be one last gasp from the bots that signed up before reCaptcha actually went live.  They signed up, and then didn't post for roughly 10 hours.  I give it a day before we see the actual decrease in spam.

EDIT:  I underestimated how long some of these bots sleep for.  I've seen a couple now from more than 2 weeks ago suddenly post.

Does that have anything to do with why the post box is about four times as wide as it should be?

the class or ID for the quick reply text box must of changed in the update, it;s a pretty even fix though someone just needs to add "width: 800px;" no qoutes to the "#quickReplyOptions form textarea" css selector in the themes main css file.

could also be fixed client side with some user CSS.

I run a SMF-powered forum myself.  I never used reCaptcha, but i've had some degree of success with NotCaptcha. I reduced 100 daily spambot signups to pretty much 2 weekly spambot signups...
