Using album tags as identification too?
« on: February 15, 2008, 05:55:14 pm »
I was wondering about the possibility of using album tags to identify songs in addition to name + artist. The reason why I ask is that I listen to a lot of live music and as it is now any live versions are recognised as the same song as the album versions if they are tagged with the same name + artist but have a different album (to the person i just dethroned on the Orange Crush scoreboard I apologise  :-[).
I know the subject of tagging and recognising different versions of one song as the same has come up before and I'm certainly not asking that this all be changed simply on my account ;) but I would like to hear what others think of this idea. In the mean time I'll just go and add '(Live)' to all the names (but then what of different live performances of the same song?! ;)).

P.S.
Great game to all those involved making it (Dylan especially it seems), congratulations on getting it out there.

I agree. I played a couple of songs from a live album tonight and i jumped on top of the charts, that obviously contains the studio version of the songs I played. That's not fair to those who play only studio albums. I reported my score, as soon as I noticed that something was very wrong. I'm strongly in favour of adding an album tag to the recognition system.

But what about songs on the original album versus songs on a "Greatest Hits" or other compilation? The actual tracks would be more or less identical, but would be on different scoreboards.

That's one of the many issues. The best way, reletively speaking is not for it to read more, but for it to take all that are written different and make them the same. This has issues too...

But anyway, go here for a long discussion about this and other related issues http://www.audio-surf.com/forum/index.php/topic,1443.0.html
