Forcing VSync off definitely helped a little, but when I hit more than one brick at once it still slows down a lot.
same.

That might be a placebo effect

I dont think thats it.
I  played the beginning off a few songs with MANY blocks at the beginning, then i turned VSync on and played the same songs, and all i can say is that it was a huge difference.

but maybe im just crazy  Tongue

If you aren't getting good FPS to begin with, and your average FPS are under your refresh rate, then it is not just a placebo effect.

I'm guessing its drivers. Same with most games. Old graphics card drivers make game performance suck. I've got AMD 4400+ X2 running Vista Ultimate with a 8600GT and it runs fine. Also, this game is immense!

Someone mentioned this earlier, and after doing a bit of research on vsync, it DEFINITELY helps, it's not a placebo effect. It will only help people with frame rates LOWER than their refresh rates. It's not a driver issue, either, at least for me it sure as shit isn't. I've upgraded my drivers but to no avail, it's still low frame and laggy.

There appear to be two separate problems: People simply getting low fps, and those getting similar framarates, but far worse actual performance. Vsync may slightly help the former (though it's really just replacing the whole screen being a frame behind with only part of the screen being a frame behind due to tearing), but has little/no effect for the later.

Also, I doubt it's a driver issue. My drivers haven't changed since the beta, and I'm running reasonable recent drivers (in the 160.x range. I'm using a laptop, so using the latest and greatest beta drivers is not possible).

Maybe the gold edition of the game is more picky with drivers, as changing my drivers worked for me...  Huh

Yeah - that's what I said as well. And I've been using the same drivers that worked perfectly in the beta at first.

first i could only play 800*600 at normal(no aa)
now i play 1440*900 at enhanced with 4*aa, about 40 frames haha.

Well the beta patch did nothing for my frames, looks like we will have to keep waiting.

In addition to this, I think there is a massive issue with relativity here.

Some people say the game doesn't run well, and mean it runs under 30fps. Others say the same, but it runs at 50+fps and dips under 30.

Some people say the game runs just fine, and mean the game runs over 30fps. Others say the same, but it runs over 50fps.

So you see, unless people put their average and average min frames, just saying "it runs" or "it runs poorly" doesn't help the issue at hand.

On a totally different tangent, do other people's menu run at strange rates? When in normal mode, my menu's will run at 45fps almost no matter what the fps was before I went into the menu. Additionally, Enhanced and Premium run at 35 and 25 respectively. AA(off, 4x, 8x) doesn't change the frames/second.

For me, the game runs poorly if it ever dips below 60  Tongue

But seriously, it seems like its not the frames that count, its the feel of the game as the framerates dive, I've had the bug, glad it's fixed now...

Well, 60 is nice, but I could live with a constant 40 or above I think.

Since it is now fixed (and runs at 60fps?), would you be so kind as to tell which fix actually fixed this problem for you? Was it new drivers? Which ones? Also if you don't mind, settings played at, and cpu/gpu used.

I am curious as to what fixed it as well.

Bump.
Seriously.
This is really getting on my nerves.
In the beta, it ran FINE.
Now, it doesn't.
We've proven that the processor use is WAY too high, and the memory usage is WAY WAY too high.

I'm aching for some official word on this...
