New patch is a slight improvement. Normal detail in the gold version is now almost as smooth as Enhanced detail in the beta. Enhanced detail in the gold version is still unplayably jittery though.

Phetal,

Are you positive that the performance difference between beta and steam isn't due to resolution or anti-aliasing? The beta didn't default to your desktop resolution the way the steam version does and it didn't support anti-aliasing at all.

Yeah, the patch improved things a bit, but I still don't get a good constant framerate at 1680x1050 on normal and no AA.

I'm running at the same resolution (1440x900) as I did in the beta. AA doesn't seem to seriously affect gameplay at all.
And yeah, I ran it just fine at premium in the beta, and now, it even gets a tad slow sometimes on Normal.
My computer is PLENTY fast enough to run this...
is there any chance it could have anything to do with Widescreen? That was a thought I had... but I doubt it.
Thanks for your response.

During the beta I always had a stable framerate with Enhanced graphics and AA on.  Ever since I purchased the full version, I can only play with Normal graphics because I only get an average of 25 FPS with Enhanced graphics. Even with Normal graphics I never get more than 45 FPS in the middle of the track. Curiously, maximizing or decreasing resolution and/or AA does not make any difference. It sounds like a drivers issue but I have the latest Nvidia drivers (which are 3 months old, what's up with that?). I even have Vsync forced off. What can I do to improve my framerate? My specs are here:

GeForce 7600 GT
Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
1 GB RAM
Win XP SP2

I'd like to throw my 2 cents in to the performance problem wishing well.  Specs:

WinXP 32-bit SP2
ASUS nForce4 A8N-SLI
AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ at 2.4GHz (stock is 2.0, I am not overvolting)
2x1GB Mushkin RAM at stock speed
eVGA 8800GTS 512MB at stock speed
Creative X-Fi Platinum
MS/Razer Habu mouse
Saitek Eclipse 2 keyboard

I solved my first batch of framerate issues by unplugging my XBCD controller. Not a bother since I use the mouse.

But still, running 1680x1050 Enhanced with no AA and no AF nets me 25-30fps average across the game, according to Fraps.  It never goes above 35.  Going to Premium sets me back into 20fps territory, and Normal bumps me to about 40fps average.  Resolution and AA do not make much of a difference - the problem lies elsewhere.

I'm running the latest drivers for all my components.  I always install the AMD dual core optimizer on my machines.   Changing vsync does nothing.  I can't think of any reason why it runs so slowly on my computer, no other game has any hitches.

It's frustrating since the meagre GeForce 8400M G (the slowest 8000 series part) with a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo in my laptop runs circles around my desktop in Audiosurf.  (XP 32, 2.5GB RAM)  Suggestions?  If there's anything I can do to profile Audiosurf's programming, let me know.

Liquid Rain, do me a favor and run one round on Ninja Mono, then another on Pointman Elite. Do the FPS problems still exist in Pointman Elite?

I tried this and the difference was no more than 5-10 FPS.

I 'fixed' my issue with new drivers, and I play on Normal, to get frames of around 80+ mostly, but premium is absolutely unplayable  :-[

Why bother having it at all in this state?

I've been asking for a Vsync option, as it being off significanly reduces mouse lag (essential to have low for this game), and increases performance.

Dylan, anti-aliasing and resolution make absolutely no difference at all. I've got mine set to 1920x1200, and 8x aa, and it impacts maybe around 1 or 2 frames? It's obviously a coding issue.

EDIT: I'd like to know what you did with the latest patch, as I can now play Enhanced without being annoyed by lag again! Finally I can see those lines after beats again! This patch does seem to have fixed the majority of the problems, and even premium is playable, although only just. Well done anyway!

When I had my Nvidia 6600 I could run Audiosurf well (both beta and the first steam release). However I recently upgraded to an 8800GT (I also upgraded my proc/mobo, but I'm too lazy to find the specs unless it's deemed necessary). Ever since upgrading, I started getting these fps issues as well. I have yet to try normal mode, but the middle option is quite unbearable, when it was just fine on a video card half the speed of my current one.

Edit: Okay, I've played it on normal, and at the very least, it runs very smoothly.

Dude a GeForce 8800GT should be able to handle this in Premium with 8x.  Do you have low RAM or slow Processor or something?

Ok... Here are my specs:

Barton 3200+
2 gb ddr400
7600GT /256mb

With all due respect, this rig can play team fortress 2 on high settings, but not audiosurf?
Resolution is 1024 x 768.

On normal I get extremely good fps, I'd say about 70>
On enhanced, it doesn't go over 30-ish
On premium, the game is unplayable and the mouse lag is killing me.
AA is off.

What seems to be the problem?

Define "handle" - i consider anything ever below 60 FPS undesirable for Audiosurf. With the youngest patch, i can have this at enhanced detail, before that i had to choose normal. I got an 8800GTS 512, which ist barely faster than the 8800GT. And neither my CPU nor my RAM is lacking, yet on premium detail it really(!) gets laggy. The FPS reads are still not too bad, i'd say never below 30 but didn't look too close because it felt bad and i switched back.

I'm having an FPS issue, but it hasnt to do with graphics. If I play long heavy traffic songs, I get serious frame jumping and FPS dropping down to 4-8 about  4-5 minutes through the song. It only gets fixed if I stop for a while, or drop down to Normal, but even then the FPS drops back to 4-8 after another 2-3 minutes. I couldnt finish a 12 minute long 280 traffic song due to this.

Im on an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300. Its a cheap semi-old laptop card, which is capable of playing Oblivion, Halo 2, and HL2 on medium settings with ease (20-30fps)
