Also: why people want to show off with their Japanese knowledge on a forum about a completely unrelated game is beyound my knowledge.

Consider that this is a video game, with a very musical bent.

Consider that a lot of people who enjoy video games, enjoy music from video games.

Consider that a lot of that music originates in Japan, and thus are often named with Japanese characters, especially when they are downloaded rather than ripped by the user.

Considering the above, and the relation....is clear.

I know a few words, and might be able to string a simple sentence together (Watashi wa edowaado desu, audiosurf wa daisuki), but I can neither read nor write any kana (let alone kanji).

Pretty good, except you have a particle mistake, it should be audiosurf ga daisuki desu, due to the way suki works. In hiragana that would look something like this:

わたし わ エドワード です。 アヂオセルフ (any other takes on how to spell that in Katakana?) が だいすき です。
Darn, particles always get me confused. I really should take a formal Japanese language course at some point.

Quote
アヂオセルフ (any other takes on how to spell that in Katakana?)
Would 'sa' work better than 'se'? アヂオサルフ

I'd romanize Audiosurf as オーディオサーフ (o-diosa-fu), myself.

(oh, and and the grammatical particle "wa" is written as "ha;" it's only pronounced "wa" when functioning as a topic marker. That, and one can say オーディオサーフは好きです"audiosurf wa suki desu," but it implies that audiosurf is being distinguished from something else that the speaker doesn't like)

haha, it looks pretty uhhhhhhhhhhh silly even with the japanese text support.  Ahoy extraneous spaces and no kanji.

よっ、日本語なんとなくできるやつ、も一人加増。現在、大阪大学での一年間の留学で実力を鍛えようとしているけど、先がまだ遠いようや。とにかく、よろしくお願いします!

So, in an attempt to somewhat veer this topic into Audiosurf territory: What Japanese artists/songs do you think would go/goes well with Audiosurf?

I could see quite a few of the Ali Project songs working well, what with their quick tempo changes and special beats. Never got around trying them out during the beta, but I'll be sure to give them a spin as soon as I get my hands on the full version.
Oh, and while I don't think it would work any wonders with the visualizer features of Audiosurf, the mention of Ghibli made me want to try out "On your mark".

Speaking of which... It's Friday over here! Where is my Audiosurf!?

Songs by capsule seem to work pretty well.  They also have the added bonus of being completely awesome. :D

I've been mostly surfin' soundtracks, but JAM Project songs are pretty fun (as long as you can resist the urge to sing along and subsequently crash into a load of greys).

ほう、関西の代表者が参上!僕はやっぱり関東地方代理を務めるべきかな?遠隔の荒地たる茨城県の筑波大学にて自立した研究を行う、研究員という微妙な身分で暗い日々を過ごしつつ精神的な苦情をチョコレートなどでごまかしがちのある人間です。
長すぎ。。。

I'm planning on Pizzicato Five-ing my way to an early grave as soon as the 15th decides to come 'round on the other side of the globe; I was hoping and praying that perhaps the game would be released by time zone, but that hope was soundly betrayed. It looks like we'll just have to wait until tomorrow afternoon, as painful as that may be.

That Capsule song looks great with the constant bass bumps! Will have to try some of their songs out for sure.
Never heard of them JAM Project folks, so I did me some youtube'ing. Can't tell if I like them or not, but it sure is an interesting style they've got going.

I also take Japanese class in school and i've learned a lot from our Japanese teacher which comes from Japan (Can barely understand his pronouciations some times  ;) )since i begun less than a month ago. I Can count from 1 to 99 and I almost remember all the Hiraganas but i forgot na to ma, but i will remember all of them sooner or later. Anyhow i find it very strange to find people who know Japanese at this forum  ??? Althou it's fun with sudden changes some times  :D

Hope i will see more of this later on ^_^

edit: If you don't have Japanese fonts installed, this post may look silly.

Noticing a lot of アニメ (anime) watchers on this site through sigs and usernames. So, out of curiosity, any of you learning, or speak Japanese?

Currently on my second year of Japanese, and just starting to learn かんじ。 (kanji)

こんいちわ! ぼく の なまえ は アンドルー です。 えいご と ちょっと にほんご を はなします。 あなった は? ぼく は おんがぐ や えんげき や ビデオガームー や アニメ が すき です。 バレンタインデー に ぼく は 一人 です。

はじめまして、 どぞ よろしく!

こんいちわ!is wrong you should use the character for "ni" instead of two characters one for "n" and the other for "i" I have studied japanese too.
