your getting so much opposition because you don't understand what the game is all about

I understand what it is about very well.  YOU don't understand that just because things are a certain way now doesn't mean they have to always be that way.  Improvement requires change.  You cannot improve without changing because improvement IS a change (though you can change without improvement).

I knew coming into this (as I've said already) the established players will not care for what I'm saying.  Enjoy your game the way it is and (if you get your way) as it always will be.  I honestly don't care anymore, I wash my hands of this.

Come on, don't be like that.

The only change you've suggested is having greys not generated by the music, but by a pseudo-random algorithm. How is that improvement?
Also Mono is only 3/14 of the modes. Pusher, Eraser, Pointman, DV (and Vegas) are all some what different to Mono.

So you just admited to be new to the game, and is suggesting that your "suggestion" to a change is necessarially an improvement. Is it just me or this guys is very narcissistic?

It's quite simple.
Every block is related to the music.
You don't collect every block.

That's the end of it. Just because you don't collect them, doesn't make you disconnected, you still get a little star when the block passes the ship, the track itself still follows, all it means is you don't get a sound effect at the same time.
Maybe switching the sound effects off might feel more natural to you?

The only time I feel actively disconnected from the song is when I mess up with puzzle characters and have to miss a load of blocks to fix the grid. But even then you've still got the track itself to go with.

Same, when you're about to overfill and you have to miss almost everything to clear up the grid. Otherwise I can sink in to the music with Pusher or Eraser

Half of this thread was devoted to wondering about the generation of grey blocks.  That is the answer.

Interesting. Did you dig into the code for this info, or just compare mono/puzzle modes on various tracks?

Dylan said that in an interview. And for some reason I feel like that only applies to Ninja Mono, and maybe Pro, because normal Mono has more colored than greys, but that might be just me.

I'd guess that's because casual mode only has blue, yellow, and red.

I'd guess that's because casual mode only has blue, yellow, and red.

Most likely this. It also kind of explains why casual mono has a huge amount of colored blocks, while mono pro has less, and ninja mono has a good deal less - proportions going from 66%->50%->40%.

Naturally, you don't normally get those percentages because there's less reds and yellows than blues/purples/greens on a song on average, but meh.
