I've seen mayflies with a longer lifespan than the iTouch battery.

Sounds more like Jobs was drunk than the guy who e-mailed him, Jobs has less coherence.
It is a possibility.

Thing is, Apple does well because it's seen as "cool", not for any technical merit.
Hey now, I can agree with you about the iPhone and iPad, but the iPods are pretty nice now that Toshiba dropped out.  At least, the classic series is.
i have to vote against that

the classics have harddrive issues im never getting one again both my 5g and my 6g ones had harddrive failures just a bit after warranty was over, which had nothing to do with my use of them since otherwise they are still in perfect condition not even a scratch on the 6g and they have never been dropped once.

and also since the last one went down i rid my music collection of all media formates but flac and ogg so im not getting anything untill i find something that has tons of space and plays flac and ogg.

I think 30 hours of straight music playing is enough battery life for me. But then again, I'm a compulsive "charge it when not in use" guy anyway, so it doesn't matter to me anyway.

30? On an iPod Touch? I'm lucky to get 3 out of mine. And it gets stupid-hot whilst just playing back music. Get about an hour playing games on it. That's even with wifi off and coming immediately from a charge.

In comparison, my Cowon S9 (which, btw, has a flash interface and can run simple flash games, you know, that thing that Apple claims EATS batteries) has never run out of battery power in between me changing the tracks. It has some ridiculous number of hours of battery life.

I'd suggest a Cowon, but the most they have is a 32GB player, so I guess it depends just how much music you want to put on it, but they're a bit pricey if they're not exactly what you want.
16GB is enough for me, but I know most folk want more.

A computer, perhaps?
/sarcasm

Anyway, the iPod Nano 4th Generation is nice, and the 5th Generation looks ugly, but has a camera and is half the price of the 4th Generation ones, so I see nothing wrong with it unless you really like watching videos or are farsighted.

ya im doing fine for in my house since i can stream the music to my stero and can stream it to my netbook over the lan.

but right now for travel im thinking i will just get a cowon s9 32gb to carry small sections of my collection than just keep the rest on an external drive and use the netbook to switch things in and out.

I half looked at the Creative X-Fi range as they support FLAC as well. Though the X-Fi2 seems to have a bad implementation of touch screens and the lack of reviews either way for the X-Fi Style means I'm not too sure about that either. My ancient Zen has come to the end of it's life, though after ~5years it's battery still rivals the ipod touch.

Which model iTouch do you have? I got mine in Christmas '09. (RHYME)

Most recent 8GB model, so it has the slower CPU from the previous generation. All of them have the same battery though.

Well, my 2 years of iPhone use are slowly but steadily coming to an end.
It seems it's battery is wearing down as well. (Coincidence?)

I can't say it's all bad. The huge variety of apps is nice at times, and the Twitter app ("Tweetie 3.0"?) is neat. :)

However, the lack of multi-tasking hurts and it's rather weak (fixed in 3GS and the new one, I have 3G).

Though, I find the new iPhone's look to be nice.
Worth signing yourself to deal with iTunes and aIds for 2 or even more years? Hell, no. But nice nonetheless.

With that in mind, I am looking forward to switch. BlackBerry contracts in Latvia have gotten decent, so I might as well get one of those finally. Been wanting to get a nice QWERTY phone for a while now.

What do you actually use twitter for? I see no point in it

Go the way I did, a BlackBerry as a phone and an iPod Touch as a 'toy'. I can't get used to touchscreens, no way would I want to write my emails on that. Plus 2 days on a battery charge instead of 4 hours is an important factor as well! For listening to music (I use bluetooth headphones) and playing quick games on the go the iPod Touch is unmatched, though.

Also, twitter is a real nice platform, in my opinion. I use it to keep track of some news feeds and to follow several podcast hosts, as well as once in a while share something with my family that interests me. Edit: Also asking questions to sports commentators and have them answered live on TV is awesome! It's not something I'd miss if it wasn't there, but it certainly is a nice thing to have.

Follow me, by the way, @koenpaulissen ;p
