I remember someone ranting about GOTO's on the steam chat ages ago and their hate for them

Yeah, was me examining ViRUS's code iirc.
They create "spaghetti code" if not carefully used in that it's hard to follow where the program flow moves. Having a sudden "if blah then goto place_foo else goto place_bar" often isn't helpful.

In assembler you'll usually try to lay things out in a procedural manner anyway, and avoid jumping from the middle of one procedure to the middle of another as this creates the same problem described above.

...and the good old 'virus'

1 print 'this is a virus'
2 goto 1

Presuming we're talking BASIC, it's 10 and 20, not 1 and 2 respectively.

1 and 2 work as well.
10 and 20 were common so you could make alterations later by simply adding lines like 9 and 11 without mucking up all your gotos.

Our bunch hadn't heard of LAMP so I give them no hope.

My school district has a block against Firefox because my middle school assistant principal flipped out on me once. That and Pidgin (might have still been Gaim back then) was all I had running (off a flash drive).

But they only sniff for "firefox.exe". I can rename it to "notfirefox.exe" and run it and it'd work fine.

AND the entire district is pretty much hooked into the same sort of LAN.

Gives me the temptation to run this from some remote corner of the school and see how long it takes them to fix it.

Back at school they blocked sites on a black list basis, eg www.SomeFlashGameSite.com though by removing the www. you could bypass the block because they didn't realise the HTTP:// is the necessary part not the www.

What exactly is this? From what you said, it sounds dangerous, so I'm not gonna follow the LINK OF DOOM until there's some more exposition.

Link to the torrent of a minimal Linux distro designed to disrupt a network.
The link is safe, apart from being full of adverts.

There are operating systems designed to kill other operating systems?! Someone's out-eviled me!

But anyway, it's a pretty cool idea.
