I've seen 80-150mb videos before. You won't really get much smaller unless you want to cut quality more. You can decrease a few options (lower bitrate and stuff) if you want to.

I've actually been uploading 200-500mb videos on Youtube...school connections rock :)

I'm sure the quality on youtube isn't amazing so the quality of the video could be put down a bit.. I did one with Movie maker at 19.2mb ish and it does look a bit crap but you can make it out..
My first video anyway.

Thought by using VirtualDub I could probably get a good filesize at way more quality than Movie Maker does.. but not sure how.

As far as I know, nobody's bothered with copyright for uploading videos.  And they shouldn't have to, either, nobody's going to try and rip the song from the video when they could get a sound effect free version elsewhere.

Well, for many reasons I, and many others too, upload videos without Sound Effects. But even if you have the effects in, the Audio is still property of someone else, and I've seen Accounts deleted and Videos removed because People didn't have permission to.

Basically you're right, and Audiosurf Videos are in Accord of "Fair Use", yet not entirely, which is why the entire Video is also Property of the Artist of the Song as they gave the Audio for it. Many record companies don't care, but some do and forbid the upload.

But most people don't know sh*t about Copyright, neither when a video is legal, nor how to make it legal.
Visit my Youtube Channel with lots of Audiosurf Videos (almost daily updates)

what are people experiences with the best settings to use for youtube i recored with 1280x720@30fps with fraps and it looks fine and smooth in the vid but i find it very hard to deal with 30 fps for playing when it is usually at 75fps and i can never do as good while recording because of it.

here is my test vid i just convertd the fraps vid to a mp4 with h.264 video and aac audio and i got it down to 300mb with a decent look

I am thinking in buying a copy of fraps but before doing that I want some opinions, is it worth buying?, is it better than the free alternatives?

Have you checked out how well it runs first? The demo should allow you to capture 60 seconds, so do a thorough testing with that before investing.
FRAPS is expensive for what it does, but you do get free updates. I've never used anything else though on Windows so I can't say how it compares, but I know some set ups don't like it, so yeah, test it first.

I downloaded the demo, it seems to work fine (can record on enhanced with no noticeable lag, it does slow a bit on premium but it is still playable). Buying it now, thanks for your opinion.

Got a problem here. It's getting harder and harder for me to make AS videos, it's like my computer has cancer or something. I've not changed any parts, nothing, yet now I can't record on even the lowest setting without it lagging too much for me to record high traffic songs. I'm a complete noob when it comes to computers, I just play games, anyone got any idea what this might be, or even better a way to fix it?

Scan for viruses, and run a disk defrag. (What OS are you using?)

Run disk clean up then Degrag.

Run disk defrag 5~7 times in a row, until it completes in c.10 seconds. XP's degrag doesn't do much in one go so running it a few times gets better results (this was fixed in Win7, dunno about Vista though)

Defrag moves 'fragmented' files so they are in a single line. With a single pass it runs from disk start to disk end, and so it's pretty obvious not everything is moved, or can be moved due to space available. Multiple passes can how ever complete the task. In Win7 (maybe WinVista, though I've not used it) the defrag program makes multiple passes on it's own, until all files are defragmented (except those which can't be moved)

Using defraggler (http://www.piriform.com/defraggler) is the best bet under XP. I tend to use it under Win7 as well.
Amount of space available makes a difference as well.

As to the recording problem, it might just be typical Windows bitrot, which can happen. Defragging will hopefully solve the issue though.
Verifying/Reinstalling Audiosurf might also help as will a reboot if you always use sleep or hibernate.
Other stuff is obviously the usual "update drivers" etc, which whilst not explaining the problem, might make it go away. ;)

Steam also has an inbuilt tool for degragging games within it's self, which can solve other game related lag.
