Fraps isn't free, but it's probably the best video creation software for games that run on DirectX. You could use screen capture software, or gamecam, but a lot of us have found that Fraps is the best solution.

The damndest crazy thing is happening when I record using fraps.

I'm getting audio desync... but only from the sound effects? It doesn't make any damn sense at all, from what I can tell - the music is lining up at the end just like at the beginning, but the sound effects get more and more off the farther along the video goes.

Post your system specs, this happens to me when I use onboard sound with my slow processor and video card.

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz (x86) at 2400MHz
NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO 256MB
2GB of RAM
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card

Anything else you need?

EDIT: Disregard! It was a sound card setting!

I've been having trouble with recording with Fraps and Audiosurf. I noticed other people in this thread have been too so I thought I'd add to it instead of creating a new thread.

Whenever I record with Fraps, the audio desyncs completely. Either the music starts while the camera is still zooming into the track or the recording speed will be too fast and everything will come out sped up and the audio starts late.

My setup:

Intel Q6600 2.4ghz
2GB DDR2 Corsair
150gb WD Raptor (10k RPM)
Geforce 8800gt 512mb
Creative X-Fi
Vista

It's probably a sound card setting. Try disabling any features which may add extra enhancements to the sound.

What about videos made using WeGames?  I find that the AVI files are large and freeze when I play in any media player.  how can I work around this?

Compress it. Raw video is a lot to load.

Don't you need a certain program to run it?

I tried everything it said in the guide, but in the end I got a message saying "Unable to initialize the output video codec.  Check that the video codec is compatible with the output video frame size and that the settings are correct, or try a different one."  ??? :(

Can I please have help for this?

What codec did you choose? Have you installed any codecs or codec packs?
