I wasn't aware of that in VirtualDub, but at least my videos now take up all the screen in youtube.

JJTM, if that is truely the case, then I could alter the steps specifically for youtube. As far as I am aware, I used 640x480 because it was what Fraps gave me when I played at 1280x960.

Could mean then that the video can be encoded at 60fps too, rather than 30fps. I'll experiment after the game is offically released. Thanks for the tip though Cheesy

Not sure how to install it to be honest. I thought it was a standard thing, but you could always see about getting something like CDex. That usually has it.

To install LameMP3 so that it shows up in Virtual Dub, I just grabbed the K-Lite Codec Pack you linked to and during the install told it to deselect all options and then ticked just LameMP3.

Does anyone have any even better settings (not using the paid version of DivX) for getting good quality Youtube footage? I'm currently using a filter to resize to 320x240, Lamemp3 to encode the sound and Xvid with the quality slider set to 6 (otherwise default settings I think). The videos look about average when they come through the Youtube processing, but it would be nice if I could get them clearer.

whenever i go to save the file as an AVI i always get "Video compression error: The source image format is not acceptable. (error code -2)"

and I am using files that fraps recorded  Huh

edit: I found out the problem. seems that Virtual dub only liked 30 fps! so I had to go to video > framerate and change it to 30 Smiley

I would also like to make two notes.

When you tell fraps to half-size the video, you are also losing quality and performance from if you were to record at full size, and then later resize it in a video editing program, this is because fraps needs to resize the video on the fly, and it's resizing method is not as clean as video editing software. Fraps will create a more pixilated and messier resize than if you were to use video editing software.

Doing half-size on newer systems won't give that much of a performance hit over full size(hardly noticable), but on older slower systems it can help if your system takes too big of a performance hit.

And checking the "no sync" box should make it so that the video will capture at 30fps, but it won't force the game to sync down to 30fps, allowing the game's fps and the video recording fps to be different.

Could it be possible for someone to explain how I can get fraps to record sound on vista?

(sorry if I worded this wrong, I'm a bit tired and I know I'll forget to ask this later)

Audiosurf doesn´t seem to like GameCam  Undecided
When I start the program, the game instantly crashes.

the input will be 44100 Hz, you have to make sure the output is the same.  in the compression settings for audio when you were picking what bitrate you want for mp3 it has sampling rate (in Hz) then bitrate, then CBR (for constant bitrate) then an indication if its stereo or mono.

gotta pick a format with 44100Hz

I tried only Fraps (Full version), but it lags in some songs.

I would like to add that i think the best place to upload your videos is http://www.stage6.com/ (Good quality)

This guide is great, but I have a problem : I use Fraps, my recording is fine, but no sounds. At all.
I did the recommendations, and here are my settings :

I don't know what to do.. Thanks in advance
