Songs not showing in Audiosurf
« on: March 06, 2010, 08:37:14 pm »
Hello, nice people,

I've got a bit of a problem (obviously). I searched Google and this forum for a solution, but found nothing.

A lot of songs-- about half-- in my iTunes library are not showing in the song selection browser in the song selection of Audiosurf. The *artist's* folder is there-- just not the song. The song is a supported filetype, always-- an m4a or an mp3-- but it's not playable.

The only common factor all the unplayable songs have is that I didn't buy them on this computer-- I had to transfer purchases from one computer to another using an iPod. I tried retransferring them, and also verifying Audiosurf's cache, but neither of these things worked.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like it's a problem with Apple's DRM.

Audiosurf can't play DRM-ed files.
I think Apple support a way to un-DRM them, but I'm unsure how/where to do so.
The other alternative is to burn to CD then re-rip the tracks and take the slight loss in quality that occurs from this.

Annoying, but that's the problem with DRM: It gets in the way of legitimate customers and affects the pirates not a jot.

Good luck with it.

But all of my songs on Audiosurf came from iTunes. Why would it be that only some iTunes songs can play and some can't?

Erm, one of the tips in the game was to burn it onto a CD. Try that!
Audiosurf is like a mix of tetris, need for speed and pot... Look at all the colours, dude!

Apple offered a mix of DRM and non-DRM music initially and then stopped using it entirely a while back (I forget when, I'm not an Apple fan ;)), so anything bought after this date will play and anything bought before may or may not depending on the artist, music label and which version you chose to download.

Oh, sorry, I must have missed that :) Thank you!

Yeah, I think after this I might just stop using iTunes. It's a real pain, this DRM crap. Thank you for your help!

Eh, it's pretty good as long as you didn't buy much back when it was DRM'd.  I've got maybe... 15 songs that I got that way.
