Well, the idea of fitting Chell and Gordon together in one game as a coop wouldn't be that smart.

In the later missions of portals, after you escape the fire, you have the possibility to take a look "behind the scenes" in the bureaus. There is one bureau which has a window of a kind of meeting-room or presentation-room with a beamer and changing foils. There you can see that Black Mesa and Aperture Science are rival companies and Black Mesa was responsible for the financial break-down of Aperture Science. So therefore Chell and Gordon would be rivals in that context.

Would be awesome to fight Chell as the final boss in HL2EP3, that would be fun...

Gordon, at least, is a level-headed man, and Chell doesn't have all that much of a reason to like Aperture Science.  Plus, there's the fact that the world is coming to an end, so I think even if they did consider themselves rivals they could work together for the purpose of making it so they don't die.

Also Alyx [spoiler]: will be gutted about her father, which is likely to effect Gordon's choices.

1:0 for you Laserrobotics, didn't take that in consideration.

The question is if the portal-technology is the main-thing which is important for either Portal 2 and/or HL2 Ep3 or the GLaDOS. (on the Borealis)

Because I remember (don't want to spoiler here so mark the text to read it)

that GLaDOS had a malfunction on the first test run which was exactly at that day when all the Aperture Science workers had brought their daughters to work.

Can be found out on www.aperturescience.com if you type in:

So I don't know in which way those things can be combined in either Portal 2 or in HL2 Ep3

There is a rumor going around, thanks to GabeN's GDC speech, that Episode 3 may be announced.

If so, I'm going to play through all Half-Life games leading up to Portal 2/Episode 3.

In this order: HL, HL2, Ep1, Ep2, Portal, Portal 2, then Ep3. ;D

Haha.

Gabe said that Portal2 will be VALVe's best game ever.... so it'll beat HL/HL2 will it? that would be quite something, though I have my doubts...

Well, think about it this way:  according to the article in GameInformer(the magazine, not the extra web content), Portal was a testbed.  It was an experiment.  It was stuffed into the HL universe because they didn't want to spend a lot of time creating a new universe for something that might not go so well.  It had 8 people working on it.  Basically, development was constricted.  Now, enter Portal 2:  20 more people are on the team, including 2 more comedy gold writers, and Valve is giving them whatever they need.  You think about how good it's going to be.

The HL story is an amazing one though.

Wasn't portal originally a mod for HL2 anyway, which VALVe liked the look of and took on the mod team to make a full blow game instead of a mod

The concept came from game called 'Narbacular Drop', which was written by a group of students at DigiPen.  Valve liked the idea so much that they hired the entire team to make Portal.
