Why don't people like steam?  It seems fine to me.
It's like iTunes for games. (Yes, that's a bad thing.)

Going to wait and make sure the offline thing works.

I loved playing the betas on my laptop while I was away from a hotspot...

Steam is the future, and stop complaining about installing the program for this game.

I bet some of the people complaining about Steam are the same sort of people who defend Starforce's cancerous protection. I'd rather use Steam than have to have system damaging drivers installed so I can play a game. (And I am not quoting anecdotal evidence. I had my own system damaged by Starforce.)

Just loaded up Steam and saw this on there. "$9 for pre-order! WHERE IS MY CREDIT CARD!!!!" Pre-ordered, preloading as I write this. The Orange Box soundtrack is an added bonus.

And to all those people whining about Steam, all I have to say is HAHAHA! As xNinja said, it's the future. Steam games are very hard to pirate (not impossible. No protection is 100%). Given the choice between Steam, or Securom (which is getting dangerously close to Starforce territory these days), Safedisc, Starforce etc... I'll take Steam any day, and any sensible person who values their computer would. If you disagree, then you've clearly never bought a title that you couldn't play due to the copy protection, nor could you return it for a refund, because, in the ultimate "f*** you" from the industry, you may have pirated it.

Ecstatic to see this on Steam. Ecstatic at the price. Roll on the 15th!

I want to say that I agree it is better than some of the crappy copy protection on CDs now.  I just think that there should be more options for those of us who like having a physical disc or those who don't like using other software just to play a game.

I'm always weary of these kind of things.  Mainly because of Apple's iPods forcing you to use iTunes.  Horrible experiences there.  Glad I got a decent MP3 Player now.

i've never experienced any copyright/drm crap with any CDs i've bought, and that is my main concern with steam. for a program like audiosurf, it would have been nice to just just a .exe standalone application like the beta demo i've been playing is. having a game launchpad is understandably useful to some people, but i haven't paid for almost anything that wasn't physically tangible like something that would come on a disc. audiosurf would be the sole reason i get steam, and it really does seem like a huge hassle just to play one game.

You've never bought a PC game that required the CD to be in it when playing? Even I have, and I've bought like three disc-based PC games in the past ten years.

This would make it easily pirate-able, whereas with steam you have quite a bit of encryption

ALL my games require the disk to play. Then again: I am a consolegamer. Consoles are the sole example of drm done right: I'll always be able to play my game, without having to depend on any 3th party and internet connection.

In the end, everything is pirateable. Steam is just more obnoxious than the other copy protections. Not in the least because they can revoke your ability to install and play the game at any time.

Why don't people like steam?  It seems fine to me.
I may have found a reason. When I left for work the pre-loading was up to 76%. When I got home, it jumped down to 52%! That's an entire day's worth of downloading lost :(

Perhaps, but this means I probably won't have the full game until after release.

Edit: Nevermind. The beta version of the client fixed the problem.

Isn’t that how its supposed to be? I don’t think anybody here has the full game yet, We all have to wait until its released, if you mean it’ll take longer after the day its released for it to start I also doubt anybody will be able to start playing the game the instant the games are activated to be playable on the release date

Preloading doesn’t give you EVERY file you know :P

jeshi, can you please type normally? Requiring people to "get Japanese font support" in order to read your posts is....well, can't even find the proper word to describe it...something between elitist and retarded  ;)
