new idea: checkpoints
« on: February 08, 2010, 11:07:47 am »
you also hate it when you want to stealth a 6 minute song and at the very end you hit a gray?
waiting for the song to go from purple to red for the fourth time frustrates you?

Well then here is the solution for you.
CHECKPOINTS!!

The idea is simple you get
3 checkpoints on easy
2 checkpoints on normal
1 checkpoints on hard

you can set the checkpoint button on a key to your choice and pressing it wil enable the checkpoint for that song.
And the menu will have an option return to checkpoint.

But some songs are to fast to accuratly focus on the track and i still hit greys you may say?

thats why it should have a start button (preffered left mouse button)

Please support/and or give constructive criticisme about inprovements

Just play it again.

I'm not a fan of this idea. For puzzlers it would be completely pointless, and a lot of monoers can stealth within 2~3 tries anyway.

I back h3x on this one. That would terminate any aspect of a challenge.

Amen to that.

Yeah, this would just make the game stupid.  It would basically remove any semblance of competition the scoreboards provide, and make the game itself so easy a 12 year old could stealth silent death.

Also not a fan. It's come to mind a lot of times, even on puzzle characters, but when I think about it, it probably makes more sense to tough it out. This has happened to me on 13 minute songs and, although it's annoying, probably wouldn't make it fair to have these checkpoints.

I personally like the Escape->Restart Combo.

Just sayin'.

Checkpoints would just dumb down any sort of competition really and would just be silly. All or nothing!

Imagine tetris with check points....

I'm still picturing how this would turn out, lol.

It's not a bad idea -- IF it made the score void when using it.

The only place I see this being a good idea is for some sort of practice mode.
But even then, it's not really necessary.

Seen as it is IMPOSSIBLE to loose the game without ironmode, just replay the track. Practice makes perfect and all that.
If at first you don't succeed, then maybe winning isn't your thing.

Well that's both a sad yet true twist on the original proverb. I like it. But it also refers me to the original proverb. You stuffed up, starting again will get you the practise so it doesn't happen with other songs.

And I played a tetris game with checkpoints once. Although your score restarted from that checkpoint if you stopped and restarted. Maybe we could do that with Audiosurf.

Nah, let's ditch the checkpoint idea and use savestates instead.

That would defeat the purpose of this game.

Sorta did... but if you played with friends, you could see how many points you could get in the last 30 seconds of the game, when the blocks were falling really fast.
