Quick question, what ARE .ash songs?

I've downloaded some, but don't know what it means. Does it just make the song be insanely insane?
Audiosurf is like a mix of tetris, need for speed and pot... Look at all the colours, dude!

.ash files are components of songs generated by Audiosurf that keeps track data, such as slopes and traffic. By themselves, they're not songs. They need a music file that corresponds with the same name in order to be used.

It doesn't make them insane by default; however, they can be modified, as Lu Tze has done in the past: http://www.audio-surf.com/forum/index.php/topic,5263.msg54336.html#msg54336

No.

.ash files keep the track data as Raz said. They can be insane if edited (like Lu-Tze's section), but usually .ash files are distributed so that two people can play the same track to give "fair' competition.

Yeah, so the .ash is the saved file of the composed previously played track that can be modified? I probably shoulda looked in the folder before asking what they were :P Thanks a lot anyway. delete thread if no longer needed.
