XBCD and Audiosurf don't mix
« on: February 05, 2008, 01:06:49 pm »
If you're using the XBCD drivers for your xbox gamepad, please unplug the controller before playing Audiosurf. Otherwise you'll get a memory leak which quickly results in terrible performance.

If you use an Xbox360 controller with the Microsoft drivers for it, then there's no problem.

I was having a problem with a memory leak, and this explained and solved the issue.  An alternative way to use an original xbox controller for audiosurf would be nice.

Any plans on fixing this issue? I love my profiles for the other games (which all work ONLY with the XBCD driver).

Same thing happens with XBCD+, had no idea what was causing the choppy game play until I read this..

I posted a message about this here : http://www.audio-surf.com/forum/index.php/topic,2577.0.html I use it for my ps2 controller, works perfect with nothing but default "game controller" driver.

Hope that helps.

Curious, how well does any sort of game pad work for such a twitchy game?

So I got the solution to my problem around 2 minutes after looking for one. Holy cow. I already love this community. I hope there is a fix for this later though, I don't want to unplug my controller everytime to be honest ;D

Edit: Btw, if that helps, I found out that when the leak is present, it only slows down the game when the mouse is moved, for some weird reason.

tried the 360 controller, and my computer still wouldn't recognize my controller. i tried my Saitek P990, and that had the same results. i lit up, but that was about it. what am i doing wrong? do i start audiosurf and then plug a controller in, or do i plug it in after audiosurf loads?

You might also need some drivers from MS, although where they've hidden them I don't know, otherwise it will just be seen as a standard DirectInput controller, which Audiosurf doesn't support (which is why the Saitek P990 doesn't work).
I THINK they come with SP3 on XP, but I've not used XP as a gaming system in months and months so I can't remember.
Vista and Windows 7 come with the 360 drivers anyway.

At a glance, yes. But I have a P880, they're good controllers, solid and last a long while, so you have one if you buy a game that uses controllers in the future. ;)

There is this add-on that enables some controllers though: http://www.audio-surf.com/forum/index.php/topic,5186.0.html
That might work.
