Audiosurf World Championship
« on: November 23, 2009, 11:22:13 am »
The Audiosurf World Championship or Global Audiosurf Tournament is running its first Season at the Moment. Round 4 will be announced come Wednesday, 25th of November and will be played Friday, 27th of November to Sunday, 29th of November.

All necessary information can be found on the Tournament Homepage by blue_hex: http://blueh3x.co.uk/audiosurf-tournament/?show=rounds&number=3

Modus: It’s going to be a character based League Board. You are free to play any character you want, every if you like. The highest score will receive 10 Points, the second 8, 3rd 6 Points and declining by one  from there. The 8th best score will therefore get 1 Point. Everyone below won’t get Points.
We ONLY Play in Ironmode and WITHOUT Itunes decoding. Please check before playing.
Everyone is free to play whenever he likes, although I would wish for most people to play all 8 rounds.

Times: It will take place from Fridays, 00:00 server time to 24:00 at Sunday. I will always announce several times before and during the tournament, when it will start and end. Because of the time regions, I won’t give you a hard time for missing it a couple of minutes, but not hours. Only scores played within this timeframe will be taken into account. It will take place the coming 8 Weekends to the end of the year. During the weekends, you are free to play the Song as many times as you like.

Songs: I am in contact with several bands and labels who allow us to use their music. Due to my musical interest, the majority of songs will be taken from the metal genre.
Feel free to send in your own suggestions if you want your own favourites played in the tournament. I’m glad if I get some help chosing the Songs.
I will always upload the Audio File at Wednesday. The Zip File will also contain the .ash we’re going to use. I strongly request you only to use the respective files. Cheaters will be expelled from the tournament if we believe it was deliberate (We being the competition, I’m not going to decide myself). Also I will release some facts about the music and the course.
To separate the characters, the songs need to be tagged by you. Tag the songs as “*songname* [as-league1-*character*]”. Only runs under these tags with the right character will be taken into account. A Pointman in a Pusher Board won’t count. The Tags will also be released together with the Song Information.

The Song List is Not yet finished, as I’m awaiting some answers to weather we can play certain songs. However, this won’t affect the tournament, as we have more songs already than needed, it’s just about increasing the quality of the tournament. If everything goes right, I’ll be able to serve you some really nice Songs during the tournament, especially at the at the Finale. I am also hoping for at least one more band to agree to support our tournament, we'll see about that later on.

League Board: The Boards will be separated by Character. I will try to always post an actual League Board at Monday. As said before, you can play every character you like as many times as you like these two days. I hope this will lead to full highscoreboards and some hard competitions.
To see the actual Standing, visit http://blueh3x.co.uk/audiosurf-tournament/?show=leagues

Reward: Winner in each category gains the right to call himself “Audiosurf *character* World Champion”. Furthermore, you’re of course free to reward yourself for good performances Wink
I will however get something for the winners nevertheless, even if it will only have symbolic value.

Legal Disclaimer As I'm neither the sole organisator of the entire tournament nor its sponsor, using my name in the Tournament Name is illegal (Not as if I would really care ;) but maybe others would). This is why the Tournament should be referred to as either Audiosurf World Championship or Global Audiosurf Tournament/League.

Round 3 Results

Round 3 has passed, the number of players was a little lower than last week, which I suppose can be traced to the very long and hard track. To all those: Don't worry, "the last prophecy" was by far the hardest song in the setlist of season 1.

Thanks to all the players for participating and congratulations to all the winners. To all those who didn't get the top 8, better Luck next time. Don't forget to tune in next week again, when we will have a Band from Finland which provided us with a high quality studio file for the tournament. You don't want to miss this!

The Rankings this week were the following:

Mono

Ko-Tao – 937,682
L4ment – 719,921
Frostshock – 714,581

Mono shows why it’s a good Idea to send in your own propositions for songs. Ko-Tao entered The Last Prophecy as Song proposition and he clearly beat everyone else, claiming those 10 Points for himself. Mono gets much more interesting overall again.

Eraser

Lu Tze – 2,288,299
[DL] – 1,582,258
S.Eagle[NL] – 1,090,263

Lu Tze clearly seems to dominate this character now. His Score again is the highest one of this Week (Maybe we could give out an extra point for that next season? ;)). S.Eagle defends his lead on the overall Board, however only by 1 Point before Lu Tze.

Pointman

Oopla – 1,876,151
Lu Tze – 1,534,886
Jagori - 909,571

Oopla, Ruler of Pointman, strikes again. Little surprising, Ooplas score was once again the benchmark for pointman. Lu Tze came quite close, but not close enough. With an additional 6 Points, Jagori now gets the second overall place, together with metaLsurfeR, who didn’t compete in Pointman this week.

Pusher

Devil_Spawn – 2,151,766
Blitzschlag1 – 2,124,330
metaLsurfeR – 2,105,864

Again, Pusher was the hardest victory, this time taken by Devil_Spawn. Devil and Blitzschlag therefore are second on the overall Board, which is still being led by metaLsurfeR, who now has 3 Points of reserves remaining. Another 3rd Place will result in him losing his lead.

DV

Maiev- - 1,872,836
[DL] – 1,865,829
darkchao77 – 1,417,863

It seems DV gets another favourite every week. Darkchao dominated round1, [DL] won Nr. 2 and this time, maiev- joins in and gets the victory. Only 7k difference between maiev- and [DL] show how tight this race might become in the end. With now two serious competitors, will darkchao77 be able to save his lead to the end or even extend it?

This and more will be answered in Round 4, tba this Wednesday.

Again, please feel free to submit your suggestions for the Tournament. Every song will be carefully tested.

I’d also like to announce, that in case of a draw, meaning the same amout of points for two people, the player with more first/second/third etc. places will win. Should this still result in a draw, the higher total score over the entire tournament will count. And, for the unlikely case that they are still even then, the highest single score will decide.

Man, Lu Tze should take a break, so that I can gain more points ahead at Eraser. I still love my DV score :D Too bad you only posted the top 3 and not the top 4 :(

Round: 4 Read the whole post pls ;)

Round 4 will this time start FRIDAY, 27th of November at 00:00 Server Time (Check the Website below) and ends Sunday, 29th of November at 24:00.

Featuring Song: Thaurorod – Warrior’s Heart

Band Homepage: http://www.thaurorod.com/index2.html

Files: http://www.mediafire.com/?q20gzzzdgvz

Originally formed in 2002, the Finnish Band Thaurorod was initially meant to be a Cover Band of Iron Maiden. The Band was hastily named “Freedom” at that time. After getting a second guitarist as well as a Vocalist, they were renamed “Thaurorod”. After the first Demo, the Band underwent several further Line up Changes on Vocals and Guitars as well as the Addition of Emmi Taipale as a Keyboardist. Only the original Line up of Bassist Pasi Tanskanen, Guitarist Emil Pohjalainen and Joonas Pykälä-Aho on Drums remained that time.

In 2006, the Band was able to rehearse their new Line up. After initial success, the band also entered the Helsinki Band Competition “Aani ja Vimma”, where they made it to the finals. The next two Demos, each with three Songs, gained Thaurorod some popularity in Finland as well as international.

In 2008, guitarist Lasse Nyman became a permanent Member of Thaurorod after Backing up for the previous guitarist Jani Vesanen on several previous shows. A couple of Months later, also the Vocalists Position changed again. The new Singer was Markku Kuikka. The Band made several shows throughout the country as well as abroad, also doing a miniature-tour through germany, receiving very positive reviews. They also started working on their Debut Album “Upon Haunted Battlefields” which is set to be released come 2010.

The Song Warrior’s Heart is one of the Songs from this upcoming Album. Thanks a lot to the Band at this Place for allowing us to play their song. Warrior’s Heart features very intense, melodic Metal. Its High Speed and Intensity make for a great Audiosurf Song, featuring 313 Traffic. The Song features rather calm passages as well as powerful, fast Parts.

I’ve played the song before on Youtube. You’ll get a different track, but the same Song (with better quality than youtube).
Please Rate and comment ;)

Webpage: For more all the necessary information, visit the Site provided by blue_h3x here: http://blueh3x.co.uk/audiosurf-tournament/?show=rounds&number=4

Rules: You are free to practise the song as much as you like already before Friday. However, you should not yet retag the song. Only Runs done with the correct tags during the timeframe mentioned above will be taken into account. Also, Do only use the Files I provided.

Fairplay: I’d again like to remind you to be fair. Use the .ash I provided (Using the same raw file will NOT generate the same .ash over and over again!) and keep to the timetable. This is basically cheating to yourself, if you want to prove that you’re the best, it would only be fair to have the same chances as the others do.

Finally, I’d again like to thank Thaurorod for their Support. I am sure that this Band will become quite a success out there, but everyone has to start sometimes. So I’d request you to tell your friends about the Band, everyone who might like their Music.

Name Contest: When I was writing with Pasi Tanskanen of Thaurorod, I couldn’t help but wonder how they actually came up with that Name. It is an interesting Name, but with no visual sense if you don’t know it already.

This is why I decided to make a little extra Competition: The Person telling me where that name comes from and/or what it means in English receives 1 extra point on the competition. Write your Idea to me as a pm. You can ONLY send in one suggestion. Remember, EITHER the correct Meaning OR it’s origin are enough. You’re however free to send in both.

Just to remind you, the tournament Round begins tomorrow. Only very few have tried the song yet.

I hope for a nice turnup again, this weeks song is much easier because it has less traffic and is much shorter.

And don't forget to comment the Song and tell me what you would wish for in the future.

Ok, Round 4 has started. I've set a first benchmark at mono which, I believe, will fall quickly once the favourites join in. There's also a pusher score waiting to get pushed out of the scoreboard ^^ was just an experiment.

Do we have to post here do be eligible for the tournament?  I've played the last two rounds but didn't notice any scores listed for me, although I guess it could be I don't get into the top 8.

Everyone who plays the song is eligible. Though only the top 8 appear on the score boards. Good luck
Austria is just like Yorkshire, but they have bigger hills.... oh and they have real snow too
