Addons give me an error
« on: August 30, 2009, 12:39:30 am »
I tried ViRUS' AHOAA and it gave me an error message on trying to open it. I figured I'd then try to download and/or use the individual addons I found I wanted to use from that page.

For reference: http://www.audio-surf.com/forum/index.php/topic,4948.0.html

I downloaded and tried a few addons individually and they gave me an error message when I tried to open them, too. All of them were either, "*addon name here* has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.", or much the same, but with an error report. The only exceptions were the Audiosurf Score Calculator and the Audiosurf Context Menu(haven't tested this one yet, but didn't get an error with it, anyway).

I'm not sure what the problem is. It's probably something simple, but I'd appreciate any help all the same.

Check you have .NET 2.0 installed (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en)
If you don't have it then your operating system probably isn't up to date, which I also suggest you remedy. ;)

But without more details (screenshot of the error perhaps?) and exactly which add-ons are crashing plus a Windows version it's hard to say more.

Yeah, I have .NET 2.0, or so my add/remove tells me. Windows XP Home, with SP3 is what I'm using. The error I was getting was just as I typed.

"*addon name here* has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."(as per attachment)

All errors are the same as above, but some give me the option to send an error report. Audiosurf Score Browser's error gives a "send report" option. Attachment with that, as well as the window when I click "What does this error report contain?". Thanks for any help.

It's an error related to .NET, since all of the addons except ACM and ASC use it, and those are the only ones that are working.

I suggest uninstalling .NET, running a registry cleaner tool (like CCleaner) and reinstalling it.

Sorry for the late reply, I just got around to fixing this. Basically, I was getting a .NET 2.0 error somehow and it wouldn't let me repair or uninstall. So, after looking around for a while and finding out different methods, I decided to download and install .NET 3.5(which includes 3.0 and 2.0). After doing that, everything works fine. If anyone else has same problems with being unable to uninstall or repair their .NET 2.0, download and install 3.5 and it should work. Thanks for the help, guys.
