Delay at beginning of track?
« on: August 24, 2009, 10:02:26 am »
I notice that for songs that begin quickly and immediately, AS doesn't give you a chance to prepare. As soon as the camera pans inward, you start the track without seeing what the first blocks are, making it very easy to screw up in <1 second. Would it be possible to add an option for a few seconds of delay at the beginning of each track?

when you play with normal
you got a little "fly in" to prepare

You can move the mouse at the fly in. Also, instead of looking at the track shape, look at the blocks.

I agree, i think there should be a kind of delay runway or something; it wouldn't be hard to make this standard on every mode and would just clear up sloppy starts.

It's been discussed before.
I don't think it's a huge issue as you always have the option to hit restart and as mentioned by S.Eagle you can move during the fly-in.
Minimal you just have to be quick after the restart. ;)

The blocks are exactly the same for the track you play. So, if you stuff it up, just hit the reset. Now you know where the blocks are.

A sloppy start isn't going to get a decent score anyway, so you might as well restart if you're after scores. If you're after fun, then who cares about the start xD

Stop ignoring Eagle.  We don't need a few seconds of delay just because you can't tear your eyes off the track :P

maybe set a custom start timer, so you can set it on half a second, 2 seconds, 3 sec, etc. Just like in real races :P

lol The thing is, this ISN'T supposed to be a racing game. And if you stuff up the first block, it will ALWAYS be there (unless you play on a friends PC or get a different ASH file). So say, dang, I hit the first grey, escape, restart.

If there's a grey right at the start, how many times can you hit it in a row without working out that you need to move?

The problem is that some songs (like ones that are musically connected to the previous track) start so abruptly that it's actually impossible to hit that first block.
