Animated skysphere addon
« on: August 16, 2009, 04:31:36 pm »
This addon lets you play Audiosurf with an animated background (skysphere). Hope you like it.

Currently it only supports animated gifs. To use it first open the program, click the 'Load image' button and choose an animated gif. Then click on 'Enable animated skysphere' and launch Audiosurf.

Note: If you run Audiosurf in full screen mode after you return to windowed mode the animation will stop, just click the 'Enable animated skysphere' button again.

It doesn't work with graphics detail set to minimal. Enhanced and premium work but don't look very good, it's recommended to use normal. Also please disable any screen effects (paint, rust, ...).

EDIT: I've updated the downloads, it fixes a crash with some gifs and also some color artifacts.

If you're interested in adding video support, there's a good ffmpeg tutorial at: http://www.dranger.com/ffmpeg/tutorial01.html
Uses the SDL overlay, but it shouldn't be hard to alter it for your code.

No.  Audiosurf will just ignore any files that are not the right type for that.  I learned this the hard way when gathering up the Portal mod.

The way the program works for the skysphere is not compatible with the rings or any other texture.

Out of curiosity, is there something internally that would cause FRAPS to *NOT* record it?  I ask, b/c I loaded up an animated .gif, played it in AS, worked great, recording it with FRAPS, just like every other video, and b/c it was late at night/morning, I uploaded it to YT, to show off the new ability, and when it played, there was no background, it was simply black.  If is not intended, it may be a bug, and if it IS intended, how would you suggest recording it and actually having it VISIBLE?
Thanks, Mapsking

This is probably one of those things like how WMP plays movies, it actually is a black background and then the video is being overlaid on top of it, which means screenshots and recordings will only show the background.

I almost forgot about this. Has anybody tried it in Windows 7, I don't have it yet but I've heard that  hardware video overlays work again without disabling desktop compositing (no more screen flickering when enabling the animated skypshere). Anyway, I'm planning to add more video files support but I would like to know if it still works.
