teh mouse glitch
« on: June 17, 2009, 08:52:18 pm »
i forget if there's already a topic here, but i'm sure everyone's had this problem, even if yyou use a game controller. at some point in almost every song, you'll notice that AS will completely ignore the mouse input, thus(if you're using Mono, Mono Pro, or Ninja Mono), will leave you roaring/screaming at your computer, and/or beating the crap out of it. also, if you're using an IBM TrackPoint or a touch pad, you'll notice that you'll have to make Mono Pro jump, or just take your finger away from the pad/'Point and quickly put it back, and that usually fixes the problem, but with wired and wireless mice, AudioSurf will basically shoot you the finger as if saying "i'm done, fuck you."

I've noticed it when flicking between windows a lot, but never midway through a song.
Perhaps something is stealing the focus? MSN messenger (or whatever they call it these days) or another messenger?
Try closing everything (and I mean everything, all the stuff in the system tray too) before running Audiosurf and see if it stops.

do the graphics freeze? when audiosurf looses focus, the graphics freeze but the music continues to play.

if your mouse stops working but the audiosurf graphics continue then it's likely to be a device/driver issue more than audiosurf loosing focus.
when this happens can you still play via the keyboard?
Australia is kinda awesome, but it's no Yorkshire.

I tend to play Audiosurf without any other windows open, so I avoid problems like this.

I have had these kinds of problems. I narrowed them down to the following programs:

Whatpulse (only the newer versions) causes the mouse input being ignored.
ATItool causes the keyboard presses to become 'stuck', as if you were holding the key.

Closing the programs before you start playing (any game) fixes the issues.

I tend to have a problem where my ship kinda "snaps" to one lane and sticks there for 1.0012 seconds (estimated).

However, sometimes in FPS games I will suddenly look at the floor or ceiling/sky and start spinning for about the same amount of time (and keep going if I don't start trying to move after), so I assume it's something to do with my mouse.

Do you have a wireless mouse?

Known issue with some lower end optical and all laser mice.

I find it the other way round. ALL optical mice (that I've used) do this to me (regardless of mouse mat or surface) and I've never had a problem with either of my laser mice.
I suspect the problem is just low end optics in both cases as both my laser mice are fairly high quality, whereas the only time I've used optical are lower end ones (having noted this as a recurring problem shortly after opticals came out I stuck with ball mice for a long time, unwilling to risk the money on a mouse that might not work well).

I think my cheap dell mouse seems to run into this issue every once in a while, never really bothered me too much but it's kind of annoying once it does jump-and-stick to one side.

Still a high end gaming mouse; they reissued it with slightly improved dpi.

Ehh, it doesn't happen often enough that I can't just deal with it, but it does tend to screw me up sometimes.
