[Bug]Score Multiplier stays after restart
« on: May 09, 2009, 12:17:54 pm »
While playing earlier today I saw a somewhat amusing bug; I played a song for a while but it didn't go that well, so I decided to restart. Right before pausing the game I picked up a Score Multiplier. The multiplier stayed after the restart. So I got a x2 bonus on my first match.

I don't think this is intentional.

yeah, happened to me once too, the only difference was that I finished a song just right after activating the multiplier, and when I started another song I had a x4 multiplier right on the beginning of the song.

Only happened once in +12 months I've been playing Audiosurf so I don't think is that important...

I've had this happen once as well, was unable to replicate it though.

Ok, I'll try to replicate it.

Oh, ViRUS, my problem with this is that it could be intentionally exploited. Not that it's a weird bug.

I'm almost sure you won't be able to replicate it. As I said, it's a very rare bug...

I've had it happen to me twice now, in several months of playing. It would be very hard to exploit intentionally since you have to get the timing exactly right, and then be fortunate enough for your first combo out of the gate on the next song to be something worth multiplying (or a white brick).

But it's worth noting that since it happened to me once with a multiplier that was on the track, it's not just an issue with Vegas, as I had originally surmised.

I don't know that this has ever happened to me, but it wouldn't surprise me.  If you pause and restart a song, you'll notice when you start the stage over that the colored square sparks come out of the top of the screen from your last run.

That has nothing to do with the topic, this thread is discussing the multiply power up staying after you restart the song, not the sparks effect.

Please, if you want to discuss that one, start a new thread :)

No, ViRUS, he means that one thing from the end of a song may re-appear at the start of another song or on restart, which relates perfectly to the issue. He's stated that it's never happened to him, but other, similar things have and they might all be related to a huge chain of not necissarily bugs, but curiosities.

I know, and I told him that this thread is for discussing only the multiplier power up staying after restarting a ride, not "other things"...

I would have reported it in more of a general sense if I thought anything other than the multiplier could have a residual effect on the following song. I just know anything that places bricks on the track, moves them around, or changes their color can't affect the next track, so I hadn't considered other possible things that could "bleed over".

Does the multiplier still function as it should, or is it just some sort of graphical bug?

It's fully functional. If I start a song with x5 over my head, and the first thing I hit is a white block, I will score 10,000.
