The only way to keep pirate copies of Audiosurf to minimum is to include "added benefits" like those in Betas, i.e. central server for global hiscore charts, proper webradio, official events, championships, races etc. in the original. When people see how mush they're missing with their pirate versions, they will be more likely to get the real thing.
What Core wrote about people from different countries not being able to pay may be true, and that's where Steam comes to the stage. Also, Paypal payments would be nice and easy to set up.
Against Steam, for the paypal. No use getting into that though, by god I've already seen a thousand threads converted to Steam arguments. I also don't really see this as being as much of a problem as everyone seems to think it is. If it's Steam, then people will get it from Steam, if it's paypal, well, they'll get it from paypal, etc. etc.
Yeah, essentially if you keep updating the game with content (even if it's small things) more people will be willing to fork cash over for the game. And, I can see this game being able to be expanded upon, with more characters and features, improving the engine and improving the song-to-highway-and-cars conversion process, and that's the sort of thing I'd pay more for. I think the reason that 10-20 is reasonable right now is that it doesn't have as much features as a full game would have.
A big feature that I imagine would be insanely fun is radio streaming. That, and online play (cooperative and versus), could severely increase the amount many people are willing to pay for the game.
And yeah, I also feel that Dylan deserves to get something for the hard work that's obviously been put into this game. I can see the reasons behind pirating as a whole, and can agree with most of them, but when it comes to individual people or small groups of people releasing games, movies, music, etc., it really offends me when people jip them off. Especially when it's so damn cheap to just buy the game.
Look at me, getting offended by something that hasn't happened yet. Damn I'm awesome.
