All I can says is. When this comes out and it's fairly priced for the type of game it is (and competitive with other puzzle games the key word is undercut lol) You my friends are going to be bigger than Peggle!

although, Dylan hasta be careful on how he gets people to pay for it.

For Example:
Lets just say he uses a kinda retarded website that only accepts payments from certain countries (like America and Europe), 2 guesses on what will happen

1. The game will get pirated, ripped up and distributed around the internet and will gain popularity through the pirated version rather than the official version by people from the countries not able to get it, and thus Dylan will probably lose alot of money due to the fact that people (even in those eligible countries) will choose the free version over the commercial version. As a quote goes, "Why pay for it when you can get it for free?"

2. Only those select countries will be able to play the game and the other countries will just have to cry...

somehow I dont think the latter will happen

Except if the game get physical copies, like I thought. If Atari, RedOctane or something sponsor the game.

No game is safe from pirating.

I'd have to agree, there'll eventually be a way to play the full version of Audiosurf for free, once its out, but there are measures that can be taken against those sorts of things happening very fast.

However, one would have to hope that the majority of people would be able to fork over the, what, 10-20$ that the game will cost to enjoy it. Hell, if presented with the option to pirate Audiosurf versus pay for Audiosurf, I'd take pay for any day.

I agree with this not only because I feel the game is well worth paying for, but I also feel that Dylan deserves something for all his work.

Hell, I think I have seen him posting and taking community feedback and suggestions more seriously then even Blizzard does with World of Warcraft, not that thats saying much.

Dylan deserves something for the work he put in. Anyone who disagrees with this shouldnt be allowed to play the game.  Of course they are going to anyway, but oh well.

The only way to keep pirate copies of Audiosurf to minimum is to include "added benefits" like those in Betas, i.e. central server for global hiscore charts, proper webradio, official events, championships, races etc. in the original. When people see how mush they're missing with their pirate versions, they will be more likely to get the real thing.
What Core wrote about people from different countries not being able to pay may be true, and that's where Steam comes to the stage. Also, Paypal payments would be nice and easy to set up.

Against Steam, for the paypal. No use getting into that though, by god I've already seen a thousand threads converted to Steam arguments. I also don't really see this as being as much of a problem as everyone seems to think it is. If it's Steam, then people will get it from Steam, if it's paypal, well, they'll get it from paypal, etc. etc.

Yeah, essentially if you keep updating the game with content (even if it's small things) more people will be willing to fork cash over for the game. And, I can see this game being able to be expanded upon, with more characters and features, improving the engine and improving the song-to-highway-and-cars conversion process, and that's the sort of thing I'd pay more for. I think the reason that 10-20 is reasonable right now is that it doesn't have as much features as a full game would have.

A big feature that I imagine would be insanely fun is radio streaming. That, and online play (cooperative and versus), could severely increase the amount many people are willing to pay for the game.

And yeah, I also feel that Dylan deserves to get something for the hard work that's obviously been put into this game. I can see the reasons behind pirating as a whole, and can agree with most of them, but when it comes to individual people or small groups of people releasing games, movies, music, etc., it really offends me when people jip them off. Especially when it's so damn cheap to just buy the game.

Look at me, getting offended by something that hasn't happened yet. Damn I'm awesome.

Speaking as someone who pirates an awful lot of games, Audiosurf is one that deserves my money. I Intend to buy it immediately upon release.

I also intend to take part in beta weekend 3. I'm excited to see the improvements.

as much as i hate paying for a game when i could easily pirate it, audiosurf does deserve my money. if offered the choice i'd probably pirate it, but since it'll come out long before anybody cracks it, 99% chance i'll be buying.
