DDR/Step Mania Mod for Audio Surf
« on: March 17, 2009, 01:09:01 pm »
I know this kind of defeats the purpose, but while I was making some food. I had a thought of a combination of DDR and Audio Surf. Imagine hitting keys RIGHT on the blocks that you need. Giving the game some sort of DDR-esque feeling, if anybody knows what I'm talking about. Okay, so if you're following me, imagine all of the arrows and such riding on a track that you surf on. You hit a certain key right as a block comes by.

Umm...

Maybe there is a game mode that requires you to hit blocks already? ??

Every single one.

This same topic has been brought up before, and the general conses was: This is Audiosurf, not DDR. If you want to play DDR go play it. If you want to play DDR with better background/environments, go make it yourself. AUdiosurf is a unique game, and it's not going to be made to conform to be a copy of another game.

Bah, Audiosurf is just a rip-off of Tetris and some racing game, why not add DDR to that list?

I'm joking, BTW =P

Don't know if this has hit the forums before, but I keep getting it poked at me by sourceforge as related to Audiosurf Prodder, and it's sort of related.

Audiosurf with a Wii balance board: http://chardish.nfshost.com/bodysurf/
So, DDR-like mat (sort of). ;)

Wii balance board, that would actually be pretty awesome.

I don't know... I wasn't a big fan of DDR to tell you the truth. I'm just saying, I like the concept of DDR and it would be found interesting to have some what of a larger challenge like that with Audio Surf. I wasn't talking about a huge dance pad or anything lame like that, I was just saying having your senses tested by hitting a sequence of keys quickly. With that huge track surfing along by the music. I'm just saying what a great feeling and mood it would bring. *shrugs*

It would be sweet.

Well there's always the tag [as-nogrey] using Mono (see http://www.audio-surf.com/forum/index.php/topic,3784.0.html)
Changes all the grey blocks into colours on Mono, so you can grab every one if you want.

Wasn't there a game that was basically this, though without the 'use your own music' factor? Frequency or something?

doesn't grabbing all the blocks defeat the point of the game :S.  its also ridiculously easy to do

Yes and no.
It actually works out as "who can make the largest combos wins".
If you force matches when you don't need to, you'll get a lower score, so hitting every block isn't necessarily a good thing.

But it's unlikely they'll be anyone else on the scoreboards, unless you persuade someone to compete against you anyway, so it's all just for fun.

Yeah, who ever said I wanted to compete with this? lmao

When you use a mod for a game its like providing another way to do something. - just for fun.

As I said in the beginning post...

Actually, the VERY FIRST thing.

"I know this kind of defeats the purpose,"

lmao

Just for fun. ;)

Actually , I understand what the OP means.  He wants to use to combine the engine of "highway" of Audiosurf to DDR.  Which would be awesome.

Lets hack a Guitar Hero controller and make it usable in AS. The controller has five buttons anyway, so 1 for each shoulder and 3 for the lanes. Maybe add the strumbar function to it. Hey, you've got your own Guitar Hero: Audiosurf :D

But seriously, didn't dylan make the [as-nogrey] and `1234 buttons for that?

But also seriously, you should get StepMania or something like that

I do and play sometimes.  I would love to play StepMania with Audiosurf highways... it would make another challenge

You're kind of just asking Dylan to rip Stepmania off, since all you're asking for is that with Audiosurf graphics.
