More rolls
« on: January 21, 2008, 04:04:31 pm »
If in songs where the tempo gets really fast the track could start to roll over allot more than it does now. I noticed that only a few songs out of the many that i have played in have rolls. Also a few more exciting things added like jumps and different camera views.

Yes, I noticed with different camera angles and stuff they already had in, it kept my attention more driven, instead of just being hung on one long shot.
The rolls during extreme music really grabbed my attention and got me heavily into the song I was playing, but it was a shame they only appeared very rarely.

I think it would be neat if there were more twists and if they didn't necessarily have to rotate the full 360 degrees. Like you could enter one and rotate only 45 degrees and finish the song like that. I'd love it.
I mostly play as the Ninja Mono, but I occasionally like to play as the eraser, or as I call it, the "ethnic cleanser"!

I would also love playing at a sort of off handed angle -

The camera responding to the music would be really useful: in track sections with a sharp turn and a steep dive, it's totally impossible to see what's coming.  If the camera could help out, it'd be less frustrating.

And song sections with the camera on an angle or moved to one side of the track would be interesting.  Maybe even an experimental 'circling camera' mode. :)

That's a pretty stupid idea.  Would you like a "circling camera" in a racing game or FPS?  There's really no point except to hamper your vision.

The word 'experiment' suggests that it would be used to establish the functionality or value of extremely flexible cameras.  Nobody is suggesting you'd play like that, however much racing games DID have orbiting cameras until the late 90s.

Extremely flexible cameras are good.  Testing things is good.  Hence 'experiments'.  ::)

As the person who asked for more corkscrews after the first beta, let me be the first to say that I think the current balance is perfect. Also, the way the camera works with corkscrews and turns are what make them exciting and fun, changing the camera would ruin that and completely remove the point of them.

What about more turns?

I think the game needs some loops. I have yet to see any of them, even though I've seen lots of barrel rolls.

Needs more Starfox too :D

I perhaps am alone, but I'm not a big fan of rolls and turns when they interfere with the view.

I'm all for cool tracks, but very little irks me more than doing well in a round and then BAM I couldn't see the gray block and there goes my run.

Do a second run and be warned about that place, then.
And yes, you are probably alone.

No, he isn't.  I hate it just as much when I can only see the lane that I am in.

The maps should be able to turn more and spiral instead of being mostly straight.

(like spiraling down a song that is fast all the way through and ending Near the beggining point)
