I was sitting at my desk reading a book when my computer switched to my Earthsim Screen saver ( A earth simulation program that is also a screen saver) and I wondered if it was possible for Audiosurf to become a screen saver.

It could take songs you choose (or one's you've already played through) and just have a a random car moving down the track collecting traffic on a random background and difficulty.

Just my 2 cents.  Smiley

I would love that.
But should the cars be randomly generated or should they be synced to music?
Set an option for the music-random or a selection of songs (1-10 songs, sequence or random pick)

Sounds good.
However I doubt it'd run flawlessly, things that're this awesome never work properly.
GL though

Having a 'demo' mode play as a screen saver with some music might be nice... I wouldn't see the point in being able to play it though while it's a screen saver... If you want that, just launch the program.

True, but a dynamic screensaver where you can say, put a few songs the program file's folder, and it would play those tracks while going through a PC controlled demo mode would be an awesome screensaver.

Maybe one where they show highscores from the currently played / most played songs as well?

If you change the file extension to whatever is used for screensavers(I can't remember at the moment and don't have the time to check), you can set it as a screensaver and it will open up like one automatically.

I believe the extension is just .scr -
- but that would only bring you to the menu. Not play a song automatically.

There is no reality but the one you imagine.

Dylan could have it detect a command line argument that tells it what song to play -- or playlist, if playlists get implemented.

Yes - I want to do that. I think it would be even better to integrate it with the windows shell so you could right-click a song file and click "play in Audiosurf". Then I guess it could just use whichever character you played last.

That's an awesome idea, and something simple like a hotkey bringing up the character menu during the 'camera zoom in' phase would work fine.  Even a side-screeen hotzone that slides a minimalist character select out during the opening would be enough - new players aren't going to be starting that way.
