Re: Playback Error 2
« Reply #90 on: February 27, 2010, 05:07:06 am »
Hi!

I really like this programm and I use it for a long time now, but I have a problem that I can't solve by myself.
When I use the "Super Playlist Surf!" by Mincus the only thing I get is Playback error 2. It can't be because of foreign letters. It has to be something else.

Do you know what to do? Or do I have to use an alternative now?

Greetings from Germany

Do you load a playlist you did from another software?  If so, open it with notepad and save as.  In the save as dialog, in the encoding box, set it to unicode and save as .m3u (not txt).  Load the playlist in SPS.  Everything should work now.

If you did a playlist within SPS, then, I don't understand.

Can you tell me all the files that this adds/modifies? After trying it out it crashed Audiosurf and even after deleting it, and what I thought was everything related it to it, Audiosurf will still crash. It was working fine before trying SPS.

It doesn't add or change any files in Audiosurf. Try verifying Audiosurf through Steam, should fix it.

I've verified multiple times, deleted local content and redownloaded, uninstalled Steam and AS and reinstalled both.

I can get this working, when I try to start it I just get a box saying "Superplaylistsurf has stopped working, Windows is checking for a solution", and then it disappears and nothing more happens.

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

I think I had it working some months ago, on the same system..

Apparently I hadn't... But now I have installed this but it's still doing the same thing:

You want the 3.5 installer: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en

You could try resetting the options. If you skipped a version or went back to an old version it might cause a crash at startup when loading the options.
Just delete the following file:
 - Vista/Win7: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\superplaylistsurfoptions.xml
 - XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\superplaylistsurfoptions.xml (there might be a "local" in here as well, I don't use the disaster that is XP any more so can't check).

Nothing happens when I run that installer, but it looks like deleting that file worked because Super Playlist Surf works now even though Questviewer crashed the first time I tried it.

Hey. I'd love to get this working! Unfortunately I'm a complete doofus with this sort of thing. So, I've downloaded and extracted all the files in both .rar's. Then what am I supposed to do? What I've been doing is loading up Audiosurf and Super Playlist Surf. Imported tracks into Playlist Surf, click start songs and then it crashes and QuestViewer stops working. What could I be doing wrong?

You only need the stuff in the -bin zip, the other is source code and probably of little use to you.

Have you tried just adding a single song manually (not importing a playlist) and playing that?
Make sure you start SPS first then use the "Start Audiosurf" button. This is the most reliable way to 'connect' the two applications.
Make sure Audiosurf isn't set up to start in fullscreen (this sometimes breaks things, I'm not sure why).

If you're still having crashes, try verifying the Audiosurf files through Steam.

I'm not supporting SPS any more, so if this is a software bug it won't be fixed (although it is open source so anyone wanting to take it over can contact me about that).

Can anyone recommend an alternative playlist manager that is still being maintained?

YAAP is, I think: http://www.audio-surf.com/forum/index.php/topic,4125.0.html

I'm working on something that allows comparing track rollercoasters in a playlist atm. Might add all the extra management stuff to that as well.

Cool. Thanks.

I'd love to see that when you get it working.
