Beatmania style mode
« on: January 20, 2008, 06:10:32 pm »
I really like the concept of a music/puzzler amalgamation.

Also, the BPM alterations and beat creation is very impressive.

Sorry, I'm new, just wanted to gush some praise on this sucker.  Now onto my suggestion.

I was wondering if you think it would be a good idea to make a mode so we could apply a key to each column (up to 5. 7 would be ideal), and push the respective key each time a block hits an area on the bottom. Bad description, but if you've played beatmania you'd know what I mean.

In any case, I'm sad that the beta is over. Busy days have only allowed me to try roughly 3/4 songs on the game.

Great job, in any case. I'd pay 30/40 bucks for the effort.

In addition to what else there is for us. It would be another mode. One with out the work of making keys for each song we want to play.

yeah but you could just 'add another mode' to any game and it would be a different game

However, not many games have a feature that adapts and creates based on what you add to it. More modes that utilize the feature would be great.

better an empty quote than to post a thread wanting a game that isn't beatmania to copy beatmania

i guess, i dunno. a big part of the appeal for me is that its a completely new kind of rhythm game; i feel like adding a mode that just emulates another game isnt really beneficial

So, nothing else I said above has any merit?

"Beats" on the PSP has an "Any song" generator like this, so I just thought more ideas based around this concept would be a good idea, and wouldn't hurt the core gameplay either.

Also, this isn't really a rhythm game.

Seeing the old tried and true hit-button-for-corresponding-note-at-corresponding-time is getting played out, especially when this game definitely breaks a good number of molds. I like DDR/BM/GH/Ouendan and play them to death and all, but the major part of me playing the hell out of this game is that it's different and has a lot of elements most music-based games do not.

I understand full-completion of a level is a huge thing for rhythm players, which is why I said in the freeride thread about a collection mode for getting all the blocks. But asking that they program 2-4 extra lanes to accommodate a direct copy of another game is pretty silly and most likely to see another In The Groove incident when Konami starts a'knockin'.

Edit: Yes, it is a rhythm game.

10 dollars?

Yeah. I'm on the streets.

10 dollars well spent, if only to not have to see people say things like "LOL @ U"

Hmm well I guess you dould program a button for each lane that's already there, but I'd make that an option. Also, with collecting stuff on freeride mode, that'd be good but more on that in the other topics.

The thing here is that adding 5 key or 7 key lanes would just be kinda... well... I don't know, but that'd make the game a bit more complicated. I'm not saying it's bad, but I don't think that it'd be the best. But asigning optional different keys to each existing lane could be cool. It could be like a special character that you have to pick to do it though.
