Bizarro songs?
« on: December 02, 2008, 08:06:24 am »
Are there any good songs to get this achievement on, other than Midi Anarchism? There's got to be some variety considering how common this achievement is.

Bizarro is easy to get on a white noise song (static :P ). I came close to Bizarro on some other songs, but I forget which.

I managed to obtain it on my second try on Fields of Despair by Dragonforce. I used pusher elite but I actually didn't even have to push any blocks around to get it.

I just got this without even really trying for it the other day, on Weird Al Yankovic's "Canadian Idiot". The blocks were arranged just right to create no matches until I nearly had 5-6 rows filled, and they were coming quickly enough to permit me to skip a few once one or two columns were full. The chance placement of a white was what clinched it. My next attempt on the very same song had a match where that white once was. So it might take a little luck, but it's probably something you could work around by skipping the right bricks.

Presumably Green Day's "American Idiot" would work since Weird Al's song is a parody of this one, but who knows if differences in production between the two would actually create a very different brick distribution.

I puzzled over this achievement for awhile as well, but then I thought of songs in my library that started out immediately really fast and intense. I realized that "Do What You Do" by XTC was perfect, and I got the achievement on my second or third try, so you might try that song if you can't get it on any of the others suggested here.

I should note that my "page" when I log into the Audiosurf website, the one that shows all my achievements, hasn't credited me for Bizarro yet. Not sure what's up with that.

Maybe it forgot? Try getting it again, kinda annoying but I had to try a few times to get one or two of them as they just didn't register

That's OK. I'm not hell-bent on getting all the achievements anyway (I suck at Mono, so I will never get Ninjutsu). I know in my heart that I got Bizarro.  ;)

I mostly pointed it out because I like to help debug things.

You know, I was wondering about that too. Aren't Pusher Elite and the DV characters the only ones for which this is even possible? I can count on my fingers the number of times I've played both characters combined.

I'll repeat it for like the two thousandth time...

You can get Bauer by creating a Match23 and then making another match with 3 blocks QUICKLY after the 23-block one...

I'm assuming this would have to be a Match21 + 3 for characters that only have a 7x3 grid.

Actually, the fact that he's had to answer this question so many times seems to indicate that the rules of matching, chaining, and scoring should be a little more transparent to the player. I totally get that the finer points of how the game works would be a massive information download for the player, but I feel like that sort of stuff should be in the game's Help function if you really want to read about it. Maybe not a complete breakdown of the exact algorithms for scoring, but at least an explanation of the basic concepts of chaining and when the matches clear, etc.

The fact that two consecutive matches the add up to 24 or more close enough together can give me the Bauer achievement is curious, because when I match 18 and then 3 in rapid succession, it doesn't credit me for Match21 at the end of the round. So theoretically, at least if I'm understanding this correctly, I could get Bauer without getting Match21. That seems counterintuitive.

I love that there's so much subtlety to this game in terms of different ways that high scores can accumulate for skilled players. I just wish the game itself explained these things a little better. (It's kind of like watching LOST and having to get the answers to your most nagging questions from the podcasts and other material outside of the actual episodes of the show.)
