Question maybe suggestion
« on: September 28, 2008, 01:50:52 pm »
I know you guys have a radio in there that updates every week.  I just bought this game a few days ago feel in love with it.  I am all into those games that involve interactive music.

I don't have any music on my computer I used to have a big collection back in the day but every things been reformatted.

I have played songs on the radio u guys have that updates every week, but is there a way to connect a radio from the internet to the game  ???  I'd like to be able to play more than just a few songs every week.  I don't have the money to buy cd's and I don't want to download music.  I just have a radio, I use lastFM and live365.net to listen to.

just curious if there was a way, thanks. Awesome game too btw good work

Audiosurf needs to analyse the game before you play it, so live streams are out of the question as it currently stands.
Take a look at the Songs board, there's links to a fair bit of free music on there.

the title of audiosurf "radio" is a little misleading in that respect; it's not really a radio, it's just a collection of songs to play for that week.

Audiosurf should let you play older radio tracks... Or delete them from your harddrive...

the point of them being only played during that week is so that people still have to buy the songs if they want to listen to them afterwards.  otherwise, huge legal issues would pop up.

Well of course, unless they are free in the first place (which some are).

AS is really quite sloppily done. You can't even free up the space for the 200MB of the Orange Box soundtrack (a good 40% of the space taken up) without it redownloding should you change it at all. Not to mention the large size of the AudiosurfHC DIR if you play a lot of tracks...among other things.

Eh the 200MB of orange box soundtrack is slightly steam's fault. Steam doesn't allow you to download individual sections of game files, just all of it at once.

But it's true, audiosurf does need a way to clean up after itself. That said, the fairly large size of the audiosurfhc folder is still small by todays standards. Don't get me wrong, a cleanup option would be nifty, just saying.

About the AudiosurfHC folder, that's only the .ash files, which are (on my machine) ~40KB for about a 4:30 song.

The actual radio downloads are at C:\Path\To\Steam\steamapps\common\audiosurf\engine\Cache\Web\www.audio-surf.com\as\asradio (as CGR files, so you can't read them with your media player). Once that folder gets too obnoxiously big, just open it up next Friday and clean them out (before downloading your next radio song - organization and whatnot)

/-EDIT-\ Oh, I just realized the Audiosurf Overture is in there too, so you might wanna keep that one

Green = listening, red = surfing

Someone posted a bunch of blank files on here once. You can stick them in place of the valve music and Steam won't redownload them.

You're right, it should, but that's not exactly anyone's fault.  It may or may not be easy to get Questviewer to do that.

Looks to be dead easy to me (I've installed the demo version of Quest3D for a look around it, it's a free download from the website, although you can't save anything).

Just a "System Command" with "Delete datafile".

So it is possible.
